Nils Russell “Fuzzy” Molander, Granite Worker
WILLIAMSTOWN – Nils Russell William "Fuzzy" Molander, 78, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at the home of his caregivers.
Born Jan. 10, 1931, in Quincy, Mass., he was the son of Nils and Alleena (Mayo) Molander. He moved to Barre with his family in 1936 and attended schools here. For the past 50 years he had made his home in Williamstown.
He had worked for the former Waldron-Shields Granite Company, the Anderson-Friberg Granite Company and the North Barre Granite Company, all in Barre.
He was an avid bowler and enjoyed ping pong, playing pool and photography.
He was a veteran of the Vermont Army National Guard serving with Company H of the 172nd Infantry Regiment of the 43rd Division, and later with Headquarters and Headquarters Battery of the 124th AAA Battalion, being discharged as a corporal in January 1955.
He was a member of Barre American Legion Post #10, Barre Moose Club, Mackenzie-Webster VFW Post #790, Barre Elks Lodge #1535 and the Barre Canadian Club.
Survivors include his companion of 30 years Rita Somers and his sister, Gladys Barton, both of Barre City and nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Arnold Molander and his sister, Dorothy Molander Supernault.
His life was celebrated at the Barre American Legion Post #10.
