Northfield Police Report

December 9

2:10 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - An officer responded to a residence on School Street for the report of a male repeatedly knocking on the door, and refusing to leave. Upon arrival the male had left. The complainant advised she knew the male and no longer wanted him around. She requested a NAT be served on him for the apartment. The officer canvassed the area, but could not locate the male. He was located later in the day and was given Notice Against Trespass.

5:15 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to 11 Mill Street for a report of a missing package. The complainant advised that UPS delivered it to the wrong address and some one took it. Police are looking into it and advised the complainant to Contact UPS to replace the package.

9:16 p.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to a vehicle off the road on South Main Street in the area of the Norwich University Gazebo. A vehicle had gone off the roadway and hit a street sign and then hit the wood fencing causing damage to three sections of fencing. The vehicle involved had moderate damage but was able to drive away from the scene. There were no injuries.

December 10

10:03 a.m. - Animal Problem - A male came into the police department with a large chocolate lab following him. The complainant did not know who owned the dog and stated it has been following him since the post office. The dog had no tags and it was transported to the pound until the owner could be located.

1:58 p.m. - Found Property - A citizen brought property to the police department that he had found. The ring was near the China Star on North Main Street. If anyone has lost this item, please call the Northfield Police 485-9181.

3:16 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - Received a report of several juveniles throwing snowballs at passing cars. Upon arrival an officer came across several young men standing in the parking lot. When the officer drove in he noted that snowballs were falling from their hands to the ground. He suggested that they not throw snowballs at passing cars. No further action.

9:06 p.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to a report of a single vehicle off the road and down an embankment on Union Brook Road. Police responded to the scene and was met by the operator of the vehicle as well as his father. There were no injuries. There appeared to be no damage to the vehicle which required a tow truck to remove the vehicle from over the embankment. Police assisted the motorist.

December 11

12:16 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police were requested to respond to an apartment building in which a person was on the fire escape throwing objects at windows. Police responded and checked the area and was unable to locate anyone on the fire escape or in the area. Police provided extra patrol to the area over the course of the night.

9:12 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - Police responded to a residence in which the parents were requesting assistance to help deal with a teenage child who was not behaving. Police responded and spoke with all the parties involved and provided some resources for the family to call for assistance in dealing with family problems.

11:03 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police were called to an apartment building for a report of some people looking into vehicles in the parking lot. Upon arrival, it was determined that the people in question were looking to have the vehicle moved as it was blocking an entrance to a parking lot. The complainant and the people involved were able to work out the problem without any further complaints.

December 12

3:30 a.m. - Agency Assistance - Police took a report concerning a student who was at Jackman Hall reporting that he had been assaulted by another student and requesting an ambulance for a hand injury as a result of the assault. Police responded and spoke with the victim who appeared to have a broken finger. The matter will require additional investigation and alcohol was a factor in this matter.

9:11 a.m. - Non-sufficient Funds Check - Police received a complaint from a business in Barre City, that a Northfield resident had given them a bad check for $120.00. The suspect was already under investigation for prior bad check cases by Northfield Police. Due to a pending investigation of this suspect, the Northfield Police accepted the case.

5:55 p.m. - Accident PD - Police were called concerning a vehicle that had gone off the road in the area of the sewage plant on Route 12A. Upon arrival police determined that the vehicle had gone off the roadway in order to avoid a collision with a deer. The vehicle required the assistance of a tow truck in order to get back on the highway. There were no injuries or damage to the vehicle.

8:53 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police assisted the Berlin Police Department for a motor vehicle crash on Chandler Road in the Town of Berlin. Northfield Police took digital photographs and provided GPS coordinates for the investigating officer.

11:04 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to the area of Slate Ave, for a noise complaint concerning traffic noise on the street. Police responded and located a party that was causing the traffic noise. The host was advised of the situation and was also asked to move several vehicles that were creating a bottle neck on the street. The host was later given a written warning for noise after police checked the area and could hear noise.

December 13

3:03 a.m. - Agency Assistance - The department assisted Barre City. A runaway male was reportedly in Northfield. The officer went to the address given, met with the juvenile and gave him a ride to a meeting point with an officer from Barre.

1:19 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - Police received a report of a suspicious circumstance from a Cemetery Street resident. The complainant advised that she received an unusual phone call from another Northfield resident. Police spoke with the complainant, and determined that no further action would be taken at the current time.

10:08 p.m. - Accident PD - An officer responded to Upper Vine Street for the report of a one vehicle crash. The officer completed a State of Vermont Uniform Crash report. The operator of the vehicle was traveling east on Vine Street and due to the very slippery road conditions was not able to maintain control around a sharp corner. No injuries were reported and moderate damage to the front passenger side fender was observed.

December 14

10:08 a.m. - Lost Property - Police received a report of a lost wallet from a Northfield citizen. The wallet was probably lost before the last snowfall while they were walking on North Main Street. If anyone has found a wallet, please contact Northfield Police Department at 485-9181.

3:57 p.m. - Trespassing - Received a call from the complainant reporting that his tenants were complaining about snow being pushed onto their lawn. Upon my arrival I found that two young

boys were plowing snow with a four wheeler. I also noted that two small mounds of snow had been pushed onto the neighbor's lawn. I requested that the boys plow the snow back onto their property, which they did.

4:10 p.m. - Theft - Police received a report from a N.U. student that while she was at a gathering on Slate Avenue her cell phone was taken from her jacket pocket. She had secured her phone in her coat and left it in a pile with other coats while at the party. After, on her way back to the campus she realized her phone was gone. She has called it and can not locate the phone. It is believed that the phone was stolen.

6:04 p.m. - Theft - Police took a complaint from a Norwich University student reporting that his Class Ring had been stolen from his dorm room. Northfield Police is currently working on several Class Ring thefts from the University. One arrest has already been made concerning a similar case on campus and more arrests are expected. Northfield Police is working with several agencies in the State of New Hampshire on this case.
