Winning
TO THE EDITOR: THE NORTHFIELD NEWS
Regarding the November 26 editorial “What’s Wrong With Winning” it seems to me that you have your apples (academics) and your oranges (interscholastic sports) mixed up.
There are many, many ways in a modern secondary school to foster and promote winning attitudes outside of interscholastic athletics. You are forgetting the primary purpose of American education which is to have a literate, educated populous capable of making informed decisions.
Peter Evans is a highly trained, experienced and respected educator. He knows what he is talking about. As for those from China and India pushing to the top, can I assume they are all top athletes?
