Phyllis C. Kirby, 93, Was With Wayerhauser
WILLIAMSTOWN — Phyllis C. Kirby died Sunday morning, Dec. 20, 2009, at her home in Williamstown, Vermont.
She was born in Dummer, N.H., on Aug. 28, 1916, the daughter of Percival and Hallie (Marsh) Clook. The family moved to Vermont in 1919. Phyllis attended grade school in Hancock and Rochester and graduated from Rochester High School in 1934. Following graduation she was employed as bookkeeper at White River Valley Creamery in Rochester.
In June 1936 she was married to G. Milton Kirby of Rochester. They were the parents of a daughter, Shaun, who died in 1997. Phyllis was employed in the office of the Hancock plant for 25 years, retiring in 1977 from Weyerhauser Company.
She was a member of the Rochester Federated Church and a former member of the Purity Rebekah Lodge in Rochester.
She enjoyed reading and many years of Scrabble games with friends. She had an interest also in collecting and sharing cooking recipes with friends. The special focus of her life was family and friends. Following the death of her husband (Milton) in 2005 she moved from her long time residence on Kirby Drive in Rochester to "The Gardens" in Williamstown so she could be closer to her grandchildren and their families, as well as her sister Winona.\
Survivors include three grandchildren, Melissa Lang, Julia DeRosia and Roderick Lang, as well as seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Winona Howe, and special nieces and nephews. Besides her daughter's and husband's death, she was predeceased by two brothers, Henry and George Clook, and a sister, Caroline Clook.
There will be no calling hours. Services will be held in Rochester in the spring, with the Rev. Gregory Homan officiating. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Rochester Federated Church, P.O.
