Radio host and local Northfield resident, Dexter Rowe, right, joins them.
Dexter Rowe, Production Director for Frank 107.1, Froggy 100.9 and WSNO 1450, welcomed SADD members of the Northfield High School, into the studio to record a public service announcement for Northfield and Roxbury’s Drug-Free Partnership.
Dex, also a volunteer board member of the Drug-Free Partnership, is a local Northfield resident and a staunch supporter of educating youth on the dangers of substance use and abuse. The PSA focused on the dangers of using marijuana, including impaired driving, and the fact that most teenagers DO NOT use marijuana. The SADD students offered the following message:
“Marijuana changes how your brain works. It contains THC - tetrahydrocannabinol; a mind-altering chemical. Marijuana can slow thinking and reaction time, cause confusion, impair balance and coordination, and affect memory and learning. It can affect your driving too! It can bring on feelings of anxiety and paranoia; mess up your performance in school, sports, and other parts of your life. Stay informed, know the risks. It's illegal! In the recently released Vermont Youth Risk Behavior Survey; 36% of students have tried marijuana - down from 48% in 1997. Of all students, 8% have smoked marijuana by age 13. Most teenagers do not use marijuana. Find a natural high.... like sports, dancing, shopping, volunteering, or joining an activity at your school or in your community. It is important to know the facts. Make an educated decision. Do you want to follow the crowd? …Then don’t use marijuana ~ 64% of your peers have never tried it.”
