Carl F. Wendel, 65, Former Road Commissioner
NORTHFIELD — Carl F. Wendel, 65, former longtime resident of Middlesex, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at his home on Stony Brook Road in Northfield. He was born in Amityville, N.Y., on Oct. 12, 1944, the son of Edgar J. Chapin and Dorothy Mae Aseltine. He attended Middlesex and Montpelier schools.
He had been married to Jean Frances Clark.
Carl operated his own business for many years, doing carpentry, trucking and snow plowing. He served as the Middlesex Road Commissioner for over 20 years and most recently worked for McCullough Crushing in Middlesex for 10 years.
He was a member of Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and loved the outdoors. He will be remembered fondly for his sense of humor, being a man of his word, as well as his unforgettable firm hand shake.
Survivors include his three children, Eddie Wendel, Bert Wendel and Chad Wendel, all of Middlesex; his brother, Bill Chapin of Middlesex; his long time companion, Vickie Torres of Northfield; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was conducted on January 8 at the Kingston Funeral Home in Northfield.
