Northfield Police Report

January 6

3:27 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police met with a complainant with concerns of his sister stealing from his mother. The complainant advised that his sister is taking advantage of his mother and that it needs to be stopped. Police advised the complainant on a course of action to take seeing as how the mother is refusing to file a complaint against her daughter.

4:01 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to the 4 Seasons retirement home for a report of a suspicious individual. The complainant advised that a middle age man was attempting to get a room and appeared to be disoriented and confused and stating that he had not taken his medication in three days. Washington County Mental Health was all ready there and they advised to transport him to CVH for observation and treatment.

4:31 p.m. - Accident PI - Police responded to a reported two vehicle accident with injury in the parking lot of Convenience Plus. Police arrived and found that a pick up truck hit a parked jeep at the fuel pumps. The operator of the truck came in too fast and struck the parked vehicle. A passenger in the jeep received minor injury to his knee when the force of the impact pushed him into the dash board.

9:02 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police responded to the area of Central Street to assist the Northfield Fire Department who were dealing with a chimney fire. Traffic control was provided.

January 7

8:17 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police received a complaint of an incident that occurred at the Northfield High School on 1-6- 10. The complainant advised that an ex boyfriend destroyed property of his daughter and disrupted the class that she was attending. Police advised the complainant on how to obtain a relief from abuse order and get his daughter to write out a sworn statement on the incident.

12:47 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police performed a child seat inspection and installation. Northfield Police have a nationally certified child seat technician available to answer or help install children's car seats. The service is free of charge. Northfield Police request that if you need assistance with a seat to please call ahead to make sure that the officer is available to do the installation.

January 8

10:19 a.m. - Parking Problem - Police received a complaint of parked vehicles blocking in other parked vehicles in the parking lot at Holland Place. Police responded and the complainant advised that she was unable to get her vehicle out because it was blocked in on all sides. Police ticketed several cars for illegal parking and the owners were located to get them to move them so they would not have to be towed.

3:18 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police responded Green Mountain apartments to assist a citizen with reprogramming her scanner. The complainant advised that when she switched apartments, the scanner was unplugged and all the channels were lost from the memory. Police reprogrammed it for her with the frequencies that she had at hand.

10:43 p.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - Police responded to a 911 call concerning a domestic dispute. Prior to the arrival of the police the caller called back and advised not to send the police as everything was OK the matter was just an over reaction. Police Responded to the location just the same and made contact with the caller (victim) who advised she was OK and that the two parties had been drinking and that she over reacted.

January 9

1:04 p.m. -Lost Property - Police took a complaint from a citizen that she had left her pocket book in the gymnasium at Northfield High School at the basketball game. Police located the purse and nothing had been taken from it. The owner of the purse picked it up a short time later. No further action taken.

3:37 p.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - Police responded to the Central Vermont Hospital for a report of a domestic assault. Police spoke with the complainant who was being treated for minor injuries to her foot and she advised that she struck the male during the altercation. Police interviewed both parties and both parties are going to be charged for their participation in the dispute.

11:29 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A local business owner contacted police concerning two customers who where angry because they could not buy any food as the business was closing for the night. The owner was requesting security checks on the building as the owner felt that the angry folks would come back and do some damage to his property. Police checked the building during the night time, no problems were observed.

January 11

3:56 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A caller advised that they knew a citizen of Northfield was violating his conditions of release. The officer responded to the area and talked with the residents of the home. There were no violations observed by the officer. The reported offender was not at the residence.

January 12

5:57 p.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - Police responded to a residence on Union Street for a fight in progress. Upon the officers arrival it was determined that

an assault had taken place. Kevin Atwood, age 18, of Northfield and a 17 yr old Juvenile were cited for Simple Assault.

8:38 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to a residence on Union Brook Rd. after a neighbor heard screaming and yelling from the residence. Upon arrival the officer found everything to be fine. There were several children outside playing in the snow and that was the source of the yelling and screaming.
