Emma and Kristin Brown each had 13 and Beth Carrier added 11 as the Lady 'Devils cruised to the thirteen point win The Blue Devil Girls racked up their eighth win of the season with a 55-42 home victory over Canaan last Saturday. If you just look at the score you would think that Williamstown just jumped out to a lead and cruised to victory. But that wasn’t the way things went. At least in the early going. Cannan came off the bus ready to play and gave the Lady ‘Devils all they could handle for most of the first quarter.

A Cannan buzzer beater made 18-16 Williamstown after one.

Cannan did manage to even things up at 20 in the second quarter but the Blue Devil’s defense stepped up and with steals and the rediscovered inside game gave Williamstown a 28-22 lead by halftime. The Lady “Devils best quarter was yet to come.

At Halftime Coach Sweet pointed out what needed work. “ I told them that I liked what we were doing but we needed to clean it up. A few unforced turnovers and on defense a few missed assignments, we’ve got to clean that up. They listened because I thought our third quarter was phenomenal.” Coach Sweet said.

In the third quarter the Lady ‘Devils out-scored the Eagles 16- 3 on the strength of balanced scoring and top shelf defense. The defense held Cannan scoreless for the first four minutes of the third quarter and five different players accounted for the Girl’s version of “third quarter thunder”. Sarah Bailey got all four of her points in the third and Brittney Martin nailed four of her six for the game in the third quarter. Add to that a bucket and two free throws by “Lulu” Perry and a hoop each by Beth Carrier and Kristin Brown and the total was 16. Good for a 44-25 Williamstown lead after three quarters.

Cannan did out-score the Lady ‘Devils 15-13 in the fourth but the damage had been done to the eagles and Williamstown came

away with a 55-42 victory. Overall coach Sweet was pleased. “I thought our “Bigs”, Emma (Lamson), “Lulu” (Perry) and Janra (Bressett) coming off the bench, ran the floor well today. They controlled the boards and made nice outlet passes that gave us lots of offensive opportunities,” the coach said.
