Northfield Police Report

January 13

8 a.m. - Accident PD - Police received a walk in complaint of an two vehicle accident that had occurred at the bottom of VT Rte. 64 and Rte. 12 South. The complainant advised that he had been rear ended and that he and the other operator had exchanged information. The complainant felt that his vehicle received more damage than he originally estimated and wanted to file a report. Police photographed the damage to his vehicle.

4:28 p.m. - Theft - Police received a complaint of medications being stolen from a resident. The complainant advised that several different types of medications were taken and he was concerned that some one may overdose do to the strength of one of the medications that were taken.

5:54 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to Convenience Plus for a report of illegal narcotics distribution in the parking lot. Police seized a vehicle and applied for a search warrant. A warrant was granted and on 1- 5-10, the female operator, age 17 of Bethel was issued a citation to appear in the Washington County District Court on 2- 18-10 to answer the charge of possession of marijuana after it was located in her vehicle.

7:43 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A Northfield resident contacted police concerning a tire on her vehicle that had gone flat over the night time. The resident advised this was not the first time this sort of thing happened and the last time, the air was let out only on one tire. The resident had not had the tire checked and had just replaced it with a spare and will advise police if only the air was let out of the tire this time as well.

January 14

7:06 a.m. - MV Complaint - An officer was dispatched to the Bull Run area for a reported vehicle off the road. He canvassed the area and found no indication of a vehicle off the road. No further action

6:49 p.m. - Theft - Police took a complaint concerning the theft of two electronic players as well as six games. Police have a suspect and the case in continuing.

January 15

3:52 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - While on patrol an officer with the Northfield Police heard a bell ringing in the area of the police department, upon further investigation the "Bell" was a sprinkler alarm sounding located across the street from the police department in the Northfield Wood Products Building. The Fire Department responded and handled the situation.

1:48 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a complaint of vandalism to a home. The complainant advised that someone had shot her deck and house with paint balls. While I was there, a neighbor stopped by and stated that it was his paint balls and that he has been shooting at the squirrels in an attempt to stop them from damaging his property. He apologized and the complainant was glad that she wasn't being targeted.

3:18 p.m. - Theft - Police received a complaint of WIC food being stolen from a residence. The complainant advised that she was out of town around the 6th of January and that someone stole her WIC food from her door step. A neighbor saw the individual who took the WIC food and charges are expected to be filed on the male party responsible.

5:53 p.m. - Custodial Dispute - Police received a complaint of custodial interference. The complainant advised that his ex wife came out and talked the kids out of going to his residence for the court ordered visit. The complainant advised that he wanted it on file but wanted no further action at this time.

January 16

12:22 a.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - Police were contacted by the Vermont Department of Corrections, Field Supervision Unit (FSU) concerning a Gary Smith being a subject they were looking for and may be in violation of his release. Upon further investigation, Gary Smith was cited to appear in Washington District Court for Domestic Assault, and was violated and lodged by FSU. Smith is due in court on February 25, 2010 on the Domestic Assault charge.

January 17

1:34 a.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to a residence in the village in reference to a trespassing complaint. Police spoke with the party trespassing and advised the subject that her presence at the residence or on the property was no longer welcome and that she needed to leave the property and not return unless she was authorized. The subject left the property.

1 p.m. - DLS - Jean Smith 37, of Northfield Falls was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while her license was criminally suspended. An officer on patrol was advised by a citizen that Smith was driving. The officer located and stopped Smith. Smith was subsequently taken into custody and processed at the Northfield Police Station. Smith was released with a citation to appear in Washington District Court on Thursday February 25, 2010.

3:25 p.m. - Theft - Michael Meade age 19 of Barrington, RI was cited for larceny. A witness called campus security to report suspicious activity around a car, and pointed out the suspect, who was identified as Meade. Meade admitted to entering the car and removing one item. He denied taking an Ipod which was recovered just outside the car. He was cited to appear in court on Thursday February 25, 2010

January 18

10:45 a.m. - MV Complaint - A citizen contacted the Northfield Police to report a motor vehicle complaint which had occurred earlier in the week. The complainant provided a registration plate and the officer called the owner and spoke to her regarding the complaint and cautioned her about her driving.

4:26 p.m. - MV Complaint - A motorist called to report an erratic operator on North Main Street near Doyon Road. The motorist provided the registration plate information. The officer was able to locate the elderly driver and advised him of the complaint.
