Pianist Jean Claude Penntier To Play In Cap Cities Concert Series In Montpelier
Capital City Concerts continues its tenth season on Saturday, February 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Church of Montpelier with a performance featuring Jean-Claude Pennetier, pianist with the hugely popular Paris Piano Trio. The program entitled "French Fantaisie" includes Impressionistic and virtuosic works for solo piano including Barcarolles, Nocturnes, and Valses of Faure and Chopin, as well as Debussy's evocative Three Images. He will be joined by flutist Karen Kevra in performances of the Poulenc Sonate for flute and piano and the Faure Fantaisie. A multi-faceted musician composer, conductor, teacher, chamber player -- Jean-Claude Pennetier above all a remarkable soloist and recitalist. Beginning his piano studies at three and half, he was enrolled at the age of six in the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris. When he was just ten years old, Pennetier was recognized for his extraordinary talent, winning first prizes in piano, chamber music, and theory from the Conservatory. He went on win the First Prize Gabriel Fauré at 18, First Prize in the International Montréal Competition at 23 and First Prize in the International Geneva Competition at 25. In 2002, he had the great honor of being named a Chevalier de la Legion d'honneur. In addition to his busy performing schedule with the Paris Piano Trio he has recently appeared as soloist with l'Orchestre de Paris, l'Orchestre National de Bordeaux Aquitaine and the festivals of Prades, Naantali, Kuhmo, and Seattle.
