Talking With: Sandra Levesque, author of Under a Fig Tree Sunday, Feb. 7, 2 pm

How does one recover a family story, many pieces of which have vanished? Author Sandra Levesque pored over letters and photographs, traveled all the way to Sicily, and above all, listened. The result is a stirring memoir that spans three generations and takes the reader from the vibrant Rutland neighborhood of Sandra's girlhood to the northeastern region of Sicily where her grandparents’ lives began.

“Under a Fig Tree started at my grandmother’s table,” she writes in the book’s prologue, “when I was old enough to be curious and young enough to be trusted with secrets.”

In a talk sponsored by the Randolph Senior Center's "Talking With" series, Sandra and host Sara Tucker will discuss the challenges of compiling a family memoir: of creating a voice, maintaining discipline, and finding the missing pieces of an elusive past.

Join us at the Randolph Senior Center, 6 Hale Street, for an afternoon of family lore and local history and a chance to leave with a signed copy of this inspiring book.
