Two Contested Challenges For Town Positions While Chris Peloquin Steps Down
WILLIAMSTOWN – Contested challenges for this year’s races to be resolved at Town Meeting abide.
It was expected that there would be a race for Treasurer.
A current member of the selectboard, Monique Hayden is attempting to unseat long time treasurer, Bob Cleaves.
The second contested race is for a three year seat on the selectboard where Chris Peloquin decided not to run again. The contest will be between former board chairman Francis Covey and resident Freda Hollyer.
It will be recalled that earlier in the year, Chris Peloquin was asked by his fellow board members to resign. At the time, he refused but now has decided not to run again.
Earlier this month, Bill Ashe was appointed to replace Stanley Corneille who resigned due to illness.
Mr. Ashe is unopposed for the two year seat that he currently holds.
The only other contested election in Williamstown this year is for a five-year seat on the cemetery commission. That seat is currently held by Conrad Beattie, who is being challenged by Paul Zeller. There are a number of uncontested elections.
School Director Laura Thygesen tops a list of mostly incumbents who are unopposed.
Moderator Winston Chambers, Lister Kathleen Cormier, Town Agent Annie Alexander- Kramer and Trustee of Public Funds Gary Storrs are all running unopposed.
Giacomo Bertolini is running for Library Trustee unopposed to replace Ann Hegarty who is stepping down this year.
No one is running for the twoyear school board seat now held by Bill Brown. That position could be filled by a successful write-in candidate or by appointment after the March elections.
