Northfield Police Report

January 20

10:11 a.m. - Burglary - Police received a report of a burglary that occurred at a residence sometime between September 2009 and January 2010. The complainant advised that items had been taken and that the residence was ransacked. Police responded and noted that the incident probably occurred before the snow fell due to no foot prints in the snow. This incident is under investigation.

1:15 p.m. - Theft - A juvenile, age 17 of Barre and Justin Grant, age 18 of East Calais were issued citations to appear in the Washington County District Court

to answer to the charges of petit larceny. On 1-16-10, the juvenile took a wallet from a co-workers jacket while working in Northfield and removed the cash. Grant attempted to use the ATM card that was located in the wallet in an attempt to withdrawal cash from the checking account.

6:09 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police were requested to respond to a residence of an elderly person to check and make sure that the outside door was locked. Police responded to the location and checked the door which was locked and secure and free of obstacles.

7:56 p.m. - Trespassing - Police responded to a local business and was requested to issue a Trespass Notice to a patron who was still inside the business. The Order was served and the subject was asked to leave the property. The subject left without incident.

9:02 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police took a complaint and also responded to an area within the town concerning a suspicious vehicle. While in route to this call the police were notified by the caller that the vehicle that they had seen was OK and that they were friends of a neighbor. Police responded just the same to speak with the complainant and to insure that everything was OK.

January 21

2:16 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - The complainant reported that they had received over a dozen calls from the same phone number with no talking or message. The caller would just call, go to voice mail and then hang up. While on the phone with the complainant the dispatcher tried calling the offending number. When the juvenile answered the phone, it was explained if he continued to harass people by calling and hanging up, that he could face criminal charges.

2:24 p.m. - Theft - Police responded to a report

of a theft. The complainant advised that quantity of regulated prescription medication had been taken from the office. The theft occurred sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

January 22

3:57 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a noise complaint that involved a report of barking dogs. Police responded to the area and could not find any dog out or about or any noise of a dog barking.

8:33 a.m. - Theft - Police received a complaint of a burglary that occurred between the dates of 1-20-10 and 1-22-10. 6 generators were stolen from the business. If anyone has any information on this crime, you are encouraged to contact the Northfield Police Department or Crime Stoppers. There is a $500.00 Cash Reward for the arrest and arraignment for the persons responsible.

2:21 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police responded to Winch Hill Road for a report of a dog running loose. Police did not locate the animal.

January 23

1:31 a.m. - Agency Assistance - The agency was requested to assist Berlin Police Department during a pursuit. The officer responded to the interstate at exit 5 to provide services. The officer was able to return to his regular patrol

within a ten minute period of time.

1:35 a.m. - Found Property - Police came into possession of a wallet that was left behind at a local business. Police made a check of the identification found in the wallet and determined it belonged to a Norwich University student. The wallet was released to a Public Safety Officer at the university to return back to the student.

5:53 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police received a complaint of a vehicle parked out on the Commons with its horn continuously going off. Police had the vehicle towed by Baroffios Garage due to the continuous noise disturbance and that it was in violation over the overnight parking ban.

2:31 p.m. - Citizen Assist - A resident of Central Street requested an officer to Notarize a document. The Notary was completed.

8:36 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - An officer on foot patrol encountered several juvenile's in possession of tobacco products. The products were seized and the juvenile's were warned about the unlawful use and possession of tobacco products.

January 24

10:32 a.m. - MV Complaint - A resident of Union Street called to report a single vehicle crash. The complainant advised no one was with the vehicle. Upon arrival the officer completed a state of Vermont Uniform Crash report. The owner of the vehicle was identified and the investigation into the operator will continue.

12:21 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Jan Heyboer age 22 of Park Ridge, NJ was charged with vandalism. Officers investigating the reported vandalism interviewed Heyboer and he admitted to shooting the sign attached to the covered bridge with his shotgun. Heyboer was cited to appear in Washington District Court on Thursday March 11, 2010.

8:20 p.m. - Agency Assistance - The department was requested to assist the Vermont State Police with a motor vehicle off the road in Williamstown. The officer responded and provided assistance.

January 25

9:22 a.m. - Accident PD - The department was contacted by the operator of a motor vehicle. Due to the icy roads, the vehicle had slid off the road and over an embankment. North Main Service was contacted and the officer provided assistance. There were no injuries. The vehicle is being checked for damages.

7:53 a.m. - MV Complaint - An officer was contacted for a report of a motor vehicle on the roadway causing a road hazard. The officer responded to Bull Run and located the abandoned vehicle. The registered owner of the vehicle located the last known operator. The operator stated that he had tried to drive but the roads were a sheet of ice so he had contacted a wrecker. The service had not arrived, so the officer requested another wrecker. Road cleared.

5:21 p.m. - Wanted Person - Jan Heyboer age 22 of Park Ridge, NJ was arrested on an outstanding warrant issued by Washington District Court for failure to appear. Heyboar was transported to the Barre City Police department.

9:45 p.m. - Agency Assistance - The duty officer was requested to back up the Berlin Officer on a bank alarm. The officer responded and provided the service.

January 26

2:08 a.m. - Parking Problem - During routine patrol of the village the officer located vehicles that were in violation of the overnight parking ban. Tickets were issued.

1:44 p.m. - Tobacco Problem - A staff member at the Northfield Middle/ High School reported a tobacco problem occurring on the school bus. I spoke with the parties involved and warned them about unlawful possession of tobacco products by minors. One of the juveniles did have a lighter which was confiscated.
