Debt Ceiling

TO THE EDITOR: THE NORTHFIELD NEWS ON JANUARY 28th, Sen. Harry Reid introduced S.AMDT.3305, an amendment to a bill dealing with the Public Debt. The amendment proposes to reimpose 'pay-as-you-go', the requirement that, for example, tax cuts must be offset by spending cuts so as not to increase the Public (i.e., National) Debt.

The amendment passed 60-40.A straight party-line vote. Not a single "fiscal conservative" Republican voted for the amendment. Not one. Please remember this the next time some pundit, talk radio host, or GOP congressional propagandist talks about how they are the party of fiscal restraint and responsibility.
