Northfield Police Report

January 27

11:08 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a complaint of a person illegally entering an residence on South Main Street. The complainant advised that his brother caught the neighbor in his residence while they were gone. The complainant stated that his brother confronted the individual and it was determined that this person had entered into the building to do his laundry without the consent of the owner.

3:53 p.m. - Lost Property - The department received a call regarding a missing iPhone. He does not know for sure where he lost it. He has called AT&T to suspend the service. About an hour later the complainant called back to report that his phone had been found and returned to him.

5:30 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police responded to a residence on Pleasant Street to assist a resident with securing her home. The complainant is elderly and has trouble moving around her home. Police secured her doors as requested and took care of some other small issues for her.

7:35 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to a request by a local merchant to meet and talk about a subject who had been in the business earlier in the evening, who was acting rude towards the female employees. Police were able to identify the subject based upon a description of the subject. The merchant was given paperwork to complete so that a trespass notice can be served upon the individual.

January 28

6:23 a.m. - Theft - Police received a complaint of a theft from a building located off of Rte. 12 south. The complainant advised that his guitar was stolen from the building while he was there practicing the night before. The complainant is coming in to the Northfield Police Department to fill out a sworn written statement on the incident.

12:03 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police received a call from the complainant who asked for assistance. The complainant advised that a neighbor has been calling and sending text messages that are harassing. I made contact with the neighbor who confirmed that she did send messages, but that she had also received messages of the same nature. I advised both that if this continued, both could be charged. Both agreed not to text or call each other.

3:42 p.m. - DLS - Phillip Amell, age 30 of Northfield was arrested for driving while license suspended and for possession of marijuana. Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle in the roadway on VT Rte 12 South. Police located the vehicle and Amell a short distance from it. Amell is criminally suspended for a DUI conviction back in 2004. Amell had marijuana on him at the time of arrest. Amell is cited to appear on 3-11-10.

7:51 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - Police were contacted by a citizen who claims to have been getting unwanted phone calls even after the caller was told not to call. The unwanted caller was identified and police contacted that caller and advised not to call. There were no more calls made to the complainant.

January 29

8:46 a.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to a one vehicle accident with no injuries off of Stoney Brook Road. The operator was traveling east on Stoney Brook Road when he swerved to avoid a snow plow and went over the embankment into Stoney Brook. The operator was not injured and Laroche Towing and North Main Service responded to remove the vehicle from the brook. Police estimated the damages to the vehicle to be at $3500.00.

5:13 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a complaint from a resident living in Northfield Falls that someone may attempt to break into her residence. The complainant advised that she was going out and was concerned that she may be burglarized while she was out. Police advised that they would check on her residence for her.

January 30

2:14 a.m. - Parking Problem - An officer observed vehicles parked overnight on village and town streets. The officer issued parking tickets for the ordinance violations.

January 31 10:48 a.m. - Citizen Assist - An officer received a call and went to Central Vermont Hospital at the request of the S.A.N.E. nurse to collect an evidentiary sexual assault evidence collection kit for a possible incident that occurred in Northfield.

11:30 a.m. - Agency Assistance – An officer responded to a report of an injured deer on VT RT 64 at the request of Fish and Game Warden. The deer was put down due to its injuries.

7:01 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police conducted stationary radar on Bear Farm Rd. No violations were observed by the officer.

February 1

2:53 a.m. - Agency Assistance - Police responded to Moretown ountain Rd. to assist the Vermont State Police with a report of a stolen ehicle. The officer responded to the area and assisted troopers with the case.

7:31 a.m. – Family Dispute -

- The chief was contacted by a parent that was having a family dispute with her teenage son. The officer responded to the residence and

helped resolve the situation.

9:15 a.m. - Accident PD - A resident of Union Brook Road came to the police station to report a crash. The operator advised she had lost control and collided with a guardrail on Union Brook Road. A state of Vermont Uniform Crash report was completed. Pictures of the damaged guard rails were taken.

11:01 a.m. - Citizen Assist - A citizen came to the police department with a child safety seat to be installed in her vehicle. The seat was an older model that had been purchased at an yard sale and would not pass the safety inspection. The parent will be returning on 2-3-10 with a new seat for installation.

12:49 a.m. - Lost Property - A resident of VT Rte 12a called to notify the department his wallet was missing. He had a number of people in

and out of the residence over the weekend, so was unable to know who might have moved it or taken it. The black wallet contained his license, credit card and health card.

12:52 p.m. - Animal Problem - A citizen came to the police department with a dog in her vehicle that she had found walking in the road. Her concern for the dog that it might get hit resulted in her loading the dog in her car and bringing it to the police department. A call to the animal control officer ended the dog's journey. The black and brown hound was given a safe place to wait for his owner to locate him.

3:45 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - An officer responded to a residence on Pleasant Street for a noise complaint. Upon arrival the officer met with the complainant who advised the noise was no longer occurring. The officer sat with the complainant for several minutes and the noise was not heard again.

February 2

1:08 a.m. - Agency Assistance - Police responded to a residence on Vine Street after a fire was reported at that location. The officer arrived and discovered there was no fire but there was a sprinkler pipe that had burst in the ceiling. The officer stood by until the fire department arrived on scene.

2:04 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to North Main St. for a report of a suspicious person. The officer checked the area but could not locate the person.

8:56 a.m. - Agency Assistance - Northfield Ambulance service requested an officer to respond to a medical call on Union Street. Upon arrival the officer spoke with the ambulance crew who advised assistance was no longer needed. No medical emergency was occurring.

3:11 p.m. - MV Complaint - An elementary school employee called to report a vehicle being driven too fast around the school area. The officer attempted to speak with the operator but he has not been located yet. A message was left at his residence. He will be cautioned about his driving.

4:09 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - A resident of Northfield Falls called to report an ongoing dispute between her daughter and her neighbor's daughter. I spoke with both parties in an effort to mediate the dispute.

11:38 p.m. - Found Property - Police responded to a local business for a report of found property. The property was taken by the officer and will be kept at the Northfield Police Department until the owner can be contacted.
