The Williamstown Girl’s were three for three last week as they pushed their record to 12-5 on the season. Last Tuesday, at home, the Ladies of the Blue & White rolled over Cabot 63-39. On Thursday the Lady Devil’s knocked off Concord 53-36 and on Saturday they made the long trip up to Canaan and came back home with a 48-36 victory.
Things got out to a sluggish start last Tuesday against Cabot. The Lady Huskies stayed with the Lady ‘Devils in the early going but a 7-0 Williamstown run made it 11-4 and The Lady ‘Devils would never be headed. Cabot registered two quick hoops to close to 11-8 but that would be as close as the Huskies would get all night. The Lady ‘Devils turned up the defensive pressure and forced numerous Cabot turnovers that led to a 19- 14 Williamstown lead after one quarter. Emma Lamson recorded nine of her game high twenty points in the first stanza as she had her inside game in high gear.
The Lady ‘Devils stretched out to a 35-24 halftime lead on the strength of Beth Carriers outside shooting in the second quarter. Beth dropped in two of her three, three point field goals in the second frame and picked another field goal as well to give Williamstown a comfortable cushion by the intermission. “At halftime I told the girls that we needed to play better defense in the second half and they went out and did just that,” said Williamstown coach Sid sweet. “They held Cabot to just 15 points in the second half. Eight points in the third and just seven in the fourth.”
The Lady ‘Devil’s scoring was very balanced after Emma Lamson’s 20 points. Beth Carrier threw in 13 and “Lulu” Perry, Kristin Brown and Brittney Martin each had eight. Sarah Bailey, Heather Bailey, and Heather Gonier each had a bucket to round out the Lady ‘Devil’s scoring in the 63-39 victory over Cabot. Coach Sweet thought that the Cabot game marked a turning point of sorts. “Before the game I told Emma she needed to be the dominate the inside game. She has been too nice, thinking about everybody but herself, I told her to take control inside and she did just that. That can be an important factor in the playoffs,” the coach said.
On Thursday night it was back at home again this time against Concord.
But while the Lady’ Devils defense was again out in full force it was a different player who stepped up her game and dominated play. “Lulu”
Perry was up top on the press and she spearheaded a defensive scheme that forced 13 Wildcat turnovers in the first quarter alone. “Lulu”
would record 22 points for her night’s work, many of them the result of Concord turnovers. By halftime the Lady ‘Devils had built a 26-25 lead.
The third quarter saw lots more forced turnovers by the Wildcats and after three Williamstown had a 44-20 lead thanks in part to Beth Carrier’s NBA length three pointer at the Buzzer.
Concord did get as close as 44- 31 but the Lady ‘Devils defense kicked things up a notch and the Williamstown Gir’s were able to come away with the 53-36 win. “Lulu” Perry led the Williamstown scoring parade with 22 points while Emma Lamson threw in 10 and Brittney martin and Beth Carrier each tossed in seven.
On Saturday it was the long trip to the remote post of Cannan but the bus trip didn’t deter the Lady ‘Devils. “Lulu” Perry scored 12 points and grabbed eleven rebounds to lead the Blue and White Girls to a 48-36 win.
Kristin Brown added eight points and snatched eight rebounds in the Victory.
