The Northfield High Girl’s hockey team split a pair of games last week.
Last Wednesday night at Kreitzberg Arena the Lady Ice Marauders fell to Rutland 1-0 but they bounced back into the win column with a 4-0 shutout of Rice on the road on Saturday afternoon. The wins put the Northfield Girl’s record at 13-5-0 with just one week left in the regular season.
Against the Rutland Red Raiders at Kreitzberg on Wednesday night the Lady Ice Marauders fell behind 1-0 in the first three minutes on a Kate Kurchena goal and were never able to counter the score. “ I think we played well. Rutland is the hottest team in the league right now,” said Northfield coach Chris Amell, “We did some good things but we just couldn’t score. Steph Morvan did a great job in goal. She made 21 saves,” the coach said.
The Lady Ice Marauders offense that had taken the night off against Rutland made the bus trip to Burlington on Saturday, however. Elana Van Arnam scored a pair of goals for the Maroon & White Girls while Kristi Luce had a goal and an assist, and Lindsey Hunt added a goal in the 4-win.
Steph Morvan made 10 saves in the Northfield nets while at the other end of the ice the Rice goaltender, Sydney Carney Knisely had to make whopping 60 stops as Northfield out- shot Rice 64-10. To say the Lady Ice Marauders controlled the game would be an understatement.
The Northfield Girls regular season comes to a close this week when they travel to Woodstock on Saturday for 7:30 p.m. match-up with the Wasps.
