The girls have been hot since the middle of the season. They played their last three regular season games this week; Stowe, Twinfield, and Craftsbury. On Monday night the Williamstown Blue Devils recognized their seniors, Kristin Brown, Sarah Bailey, Cassandra Bernier, Emma Lamson, Janra Bresett, Bethany Carrier, and Michelle Hebert. The ceremony was emotional and thoughtful, with all the underclassmen writing speeches about the senior s and giving them flowers and chocolates.

The game was a very different game then what is normally played. Only seniors started the game, even though there were three starters from the bench the devils still came out on top with a victory of 69-28. Coach Sweet left in the seniors for most of the game. Bethany Carrier led the scorers with 13 points, with Kristin Brown following behind with 11 points and Emma Lamson and Lulu Perry each with 10 points.

Thursday the girls traveled to Twinfield. The Lady Devil’s fan number was down because a number of the boys team wasn’t there. Even though the Trojan’s fans were making a loud ruckus the Lady Devils still came up on top.

Being senior night for the Lady Trojans it felt good for the Williamstown girls to beat them. The Lady Devils have beat the Lady Trojans since they meet at the AUD two years ago in the semi-finals when the Lady Trojans shot down the hopes of the Lady Devils being D-4 champs. The Devils didn’t just win the game they also won every quarter with the half time score being 18-19. The game was close the whole 32 minutes.

Williamstown ran a zone defense and pressed a little. In the first half Williamstown was flat and passive on the offense. While Twinfield was rebounding and playing a strong defense.

“We were well poised in the second half.” Williamstown’s Coach Sweet said. “We showed character when it mattered. In the last 48 seconds Emma had a lay-up and Bethany had a steal.” Both coaches had the same feeling about the game. They both said it was a great game to get them ready for next week’s playoffs.

Williamstown is one of the biggest rivals for Twinfield. “It’s the best, (the rivalry). It used to be Twinfeild and Cabot now it’s Williamstown. I love it and it looks like we will see Williamstown in the second round playoffs,” Coach Carpentier said. The final score of the game was 34-38. The leading scorers for Williamstown were Brittney Martin with 14 points and Kristin Brown with 11 points.

On Saturday the Lady Devils took a trip to Craftsbury. The Chargers had a home court advantage because the gym was very different then what Williamstown is used to playing in. The Lady Devils started off strong scoring the first two points of the game. Williamstown played a onetwo two zone for the first time this year. They learned it the night before in practice. It must have worked for them because the score at the end of the first quarter was 4-22. The game was a mix between hockey and basketball. There was blood and a lot of bruises. One of Williamstown’s key players got hurt and after the game had to go to the hospital and is now on crutches. She will be back in time for the second round playoffs. Every player for the Williamstown scored which was a team goal for the year. With four players getting hurt and one fouling out every player on the team got a lot of playing time which is what they need to get ready for the playoffs. Brittney Farnham scored 13 points with Emma Lamson and Brittney Martin both scoring nine points. The Lady Devils are getting ready for their playoffs that start this week.
