Photo By Bill Langley, The Northfield News. The Northfield girls hockey team looked like they were starting to get hot at the right time of the game Wednesday night at Krietzburg Arena. The Marauder girls scored unanswered goals, in the third period to tie the score up 2 to 2. Only to suffer a loss after an inadvertent goal in overtime. The Marauders dropped a hard fought battle to Middlebury. Northfield (14 - 6) has won five of its past six games. Northfield is sitting at number four in its division behind strong play from Lyndsy Hunt Stephanie Morvan and Elana Van Arnham

Middlebury came out strong in the first two periods. The Tigers were able to pick up a goal in each period. Northfield seemed to dominate in both periods with strong contributions by the youthful bench. Morvan seemed very comfortable in the net and held off multiple flurries between the posts. But with shot stopped and in her glove it dropped out and rolled in 2:08 minutes in the 1st overtime.

Van Arnham scored with just 4:18 left in the third period to tie the game 2 – 2.

Lindsay Hunt scored what turned out to be one of the most exciting goals of the game. With just a few seconds ticked off on the clock at the start of the 3rd quarter, The fans had risen to their feet and at the height of the cheering fans Lindsey and Christie Luce stole the puck in fine defensive double team. They then proceeded end to end passing in and out of Tiger players to conclude the skate with Lindsey scoring a goal in the upper left corner and Christie collecting the assist.

“Putting the puck in the net more will be a focus for next few weeks,” Coach Amell said “We had the shots but couldn’t finish”

Stephanie Morvan made 23 saves in the contest. The Marauders travel to Woodstock at 2 p.m. Saturday.
