Northfield Police Report

February 10

10:31 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a complaint of a student dealing drugs. The police will be investigating the allegations.

10:14 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police acting on a "Be on the Lookout" broadcast on behalf of the Berlin Police Department located a subject wanted for question concerning a Domestic Assault that had happened in Berlin. The subject wanted by Berlin Police was located at a local business.

11:35 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police spoke to an individual who came forward concerning a cell phone that had been stolen from a motor vehicle while parked at Norwich University. The caller advised that the theft was not reported to police at the time, but since the theft the phone has been recovered and the responsible party who stole the phone has been identified. An investigation is underway.

February 11

7:17 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police responded to the Falls Trailer Park for a report of vandalism. Police received a complaint of a vehicle being egged during the night. There were no witnesses to the incident although police suspect a neighbor of the complainant as a culprit.

10:06 a.m. - Impounded Vehicle - Police stopped a vehicle on Water Street for an overdue inspection sticker. At the time of the stop dispatch advised that the operator was under suspension for insurance. The operator received three Vermont Civil Violation Complaints for operating after suspension, vehicle not inspected and no insurance. Baroffios Garage towed the vehicle.

3:23 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police responded to Baroffios Garage to assist an individual with an impounded vehicle. The vehicle was towed after it had been left in the parking lot of an area business after the operator had been arrested for assault and dui. The vehicle was picked up without incident.

4:17 p.m. - Impounded Vehicle - Police stopped a vehicle on North Main Street for an over due inspection sticker. At the time of the stop, dispatch advised that the operator was suspended for failing to pay a fine. The registration had also expired. The operator was issued two Vermont Civil Violation Complaints for operating after suspension and for no registration. The vehicle was towed by North Main Service.

9:08 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police took a report concerning a rock that had been thrown from a moving vehicle parked in a parking lot. There was very minor damage done to the vehicle that was hit by the projectile. Police have a description of the vehicle responsible for the damage and are investigating and providing additional patrol to the area.

February 12

12:30 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to the area of the Clark Road for a report of several vehicles that were acting suspicious. Police responded to the area and spoke with the complainant and patrolled the area for vehicles. None were found.

8:38 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An officer spoke with the above named female who advised that a dark colored vehicle was parked at the bottom of her driveway several times in the last couple days. The females husband went down to check on the vehicle it took off and he followed it and got a license plate number.

4:16 p.m. - MV Complaint - Jonathan R. Stone, age 19 of Northfield Falls Vermont was arrested for attempting to elude a police officer and for careless and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Stone received three Vermont Civil Violation Complaints for operating while suspended, speeding and insurance. Stone was issued a citation to appear in the Washington County District Court on 4- 1-10 at 12:00 pm to answer the charges.

6:28 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a complaint of a threatening text message. Police read the message and told the complainant that they would keep the complainant on file in case there is any other issue with this person.

7:02 p.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer responded at the request of the Northfield ambulance service to a medical emergency on Maple Ave. Upon arrival, the officer provided medical aid, oxygen to an unresponsive individual while waiting for the ambulance to get on scene.

9:46 p.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer responded at the request of Capital West dispatch to a report of a man stuck in an elevator at the armory. Upon arrival, the fire department reported that the individual was now out of the elevator and no further action needed to be taken.

February 13

3:10 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police Department met with a resident in regards to a suspicious circumstance that had occurred on West Hill Road. Police met with the complainant and gathered a written statement about the incident. Due to the fact there was no clear criminal violation in the incident, no further Police action was taken at the time. Police did refer the complainant to Family Court for further assistance in the matter.

5:20 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - Police received a report of three young juveniles playing on the railroad tracks near North Main Street. Police responded and located the juveniles involved, but fled before Police were able to speak with them. Police located the juveniles at a residence nearby, and spoke with the responsible adult at the residence in regards to the incident.

February 14

1:20 a.m. - Alcohol Offense - An officer conducted a traffic stop on Kent Street. During the subsequent investigation, a passenger was identified as being a minor and having had consumed alcohol beverages. The minor was issued a referral to the Washington County Teen Alcohol Safety Program.

2:05 a.m. - Controlled Substance Problem - Shawn F. Shepard age 20 of Marblehead, MA was charged with possession of a regulated drug. Mr. Shepard was stopped on North Main Street for speeding. While speaking with Mr. Shepard the officer could smell a distinct odor of marijuana. Mr. Shepard turned over a small amount of marijuana and a glass pipe to the officer. No other contraband was found. Mr. Shepard was released on a citation for Thursday March 25, 2010 for arraignment.

8:42 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police Department responded to an Overlook Drive residence for a suspicious circumstance. Police met with the resident and addressed her concerns. Police will be monitoring the area for any signs of suspicious activity.

9:09 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police met with a resident in regards to a vandalism that occurred during the early morning hours on VT RT 12S. Police learned that a vehicle's windows had been smashed while the vehicle was parked and unoccupied for a period of time. Photographs of the damage were taken, and Police will be investigating the incident in an attempt to locate suspects.

9:37 a.m. - Theft - Police received a report of a theft from VT RT 12S. Police learned that a customer had departed the service station without paying for $68.21 in diesel fuel. A store clerk gathered a description of the vehicle, and a BOL was placed by the Police. A short time later the operator of the vehicle phoned the service station and paid for the fuel. The operator accidentally departed without paying.

11:19 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police received a report of an animal complaint on Water Street. A Pearl Street resident was out walking when he was bitten by a dog. The dog was leashed and being walked by its

owner. The dogs teeth did not penetrate the complainants coat, and no injures were sustained. The complainant denied needing EMS. Police received a

description of the canine and are attempting to locate the dog and its owner.

5:15 p.m. - Custodial Dispute - Police received areport of a custodial dispute on Houston Street. Police met with the complainant and gathered a statement. Police also received and reviewed a family court document outlining child visitation. Due to some concerns about the order, the State's Attorney's Office was contacted for further assistance. It was determined that there was no clear criminal

violation at the time.

February 15 11:04 a.m. - Dead Body - Police responded to Dogwood Glen for a report of an untimely death. Police investigated the incident, and the Vermont Medical Examiner's Office will be performing an autopsy. The death did not appear to be suspicious.
