Dinner At Unitarian Church On March 13 Includes Music By Northfield High Band
MONTPELIER - Delicious food, talented musicians, inspiring stories, and a silent auction will be among the highlights of a benefit dinner, on Saturday, March 13 from 5 to 8 p.m., for the North Branch Nature Center’s teen trip to Nicaragua. Taking place at the Unitarian Church of Montpelier, the dinner will feature enchiladas, rice and beans, salad, and dessert. Several musical acts are planned including performances from Jairo Sequeira, playing traditional Latin American music, and from the Northfield High School Band, which plays classic rock amongst other genres. In between sets will be photo presentations from past travelers to Nicaragua and the teens whose trip this event will support.
The Naturally Nicaragua trip will give local youth a chance to experience the nature and culture of Nicaragua. The North Branch Nature Center has partnered with Planting Hope, a local non-profit which has been focused on creating opportunities for education, development & cultural exchanges in Nicaragua and the United States. The partnership between the two organizations has produced a unique international trip that integrates nature, culture, and service learning at all levels. Some activities include homestays with Nicaraguan families, informal studies of how coffee plantations provide habitat for songbirds, and leading bird walks with children from Nicaraguan schools.
This assimilation of nature and culture will be possible thanks in part to the support of the public through funds raised at the benefit dinner on Saturday, March 13 at the Unitarian Church. For $10 per adult and $5 per child, attending this event is a great way to support a great cause. Take-out is also available. Tickets can be purchased at the door, but purchasing in advance is suggested by calling 229-6206. For more information, visit www.NorthBranch- NatureCenter.org.
