Legion National Commander Will Visit Northfield

The National Commander of the American Legion will be in Northfield later this month to visit The Veterans Place on Vine Street.

Clarence Hill of Martins Ferry, Ohio, who became National Commander in August, 2009, will be making a trip to Vermont on March 25 and 26.

The visit to The Veterans Place will be on March 25 at approximately 3:30 p.m. and all veterans and friends of both the Legion and The Veterans Place are encouraged to attend to welcome the National Commander.

Mr. Hill is commander of the 2.5 million member organization and has become one of the most influential representatives to testify before Congress on veterans’ affairs.

Mr. Hill was commissioned from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1972 and was on sea duty for 24 years before his retirement from the Navy in 1996.

On shore, he earned masters degrees from the Naval Post- Graduate School and the Navy War College. A Legionnaire for 27 years, he has held various positions in Post 316 in Atlantic Beach, FL and in the Department of Florida.

He attended the National American Legion College in 2000 and was an instructor in 2001. He served as the national chairman of the National Security Commission.

He is married to the former Liz Robinson of Thurso, Scotland and they have three children and six grandchildren.

Before coming to The Veterans Place, Mr. Hill will visit Governor Douglas in the State House earlier in the afternoon after visiting Post No. 59 in Waterbury at Noon.

On the following day, he will make visits to Vergennes, Middlebury, Brandon and Castleton.
