February 17

1:13 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police responded to the Northfield Historical Society for a report of vandalism to a door. The complainant advised that someone in the last 24 hours, vandalized a door in the building. The damage was caused by an sharp edged tool causing approximately $50.00 in damage to the door.

February 18

12:57 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to pleasant street for a unknown type of complaint. When Police arrived, the complainant was advising that her neighbor came in and spread pine needles all over her home. The complainant attempted to point out several large piles of needles to the officer but none could be located by the officer even though the complainant could see them.

4:41 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded back to Pleasant Street for an unknown type of complaint. The complainant advised that since the last time I was there that day that her neighbor had come in and buried all her belongings in sand. Police could not locate any sand in her residence and the complainant advised that the person responsible cleaned it up before the officer’s arrival. No further action taken.

10:20 p.m. - Assault - Police responded to a residence in order to take a report concerning a simple assault to one of the residents in the home. The complainant advised that a subject known had knocked at the door and refused to leave the property after being told to do so and during the exchange of words the complainant was struck on the side of the head in the area of the ear causing pain and discomfort. An Arrest is pending

11:53 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police took a complain concerning some text messages received on a cell phone that the complainant felt were threatening. Police are awaiting copies of the text messages and will be conducting an investigation.

February 19

8:37 a.m. - Agency Assistance - Police were requested to respond to I-89 in Williamstown to assist Vermont State Police with a 2 vehicle accident. A car traveling north on I-89 sideswiped a tractor trailer unit and then went over into a median and struck several trees. Both operators were fine but the Mazda Miata was totaled in the accident. The vehicle was towed by North Main Service.

11:52 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to complaint concerning noise that was coming from a nearby residence, the caller did not want to give her name. The complainant advised that it was a party. Police responded to the area and was unable to find any party or any type of noise violation.

February 20

12:38 a.m. - Dead Animal or Carcass - Police came across a dead deer in the roadway on South Main Street that had been hit by a motor vehicle. The deer was part way in the roadway and was removed from the area.

1:12 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to a citizen’s complaint in reference to a male subject at their front door who appeared to be intoxicated and bleeding. Police responded as well as Northfield Rescue and identified the young male subject who was intoxicated and had been assaulted at some unknown location. The subject did not require medical treatment and was taken to Barre City lockup for detox Protective Custody.

5:36 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police stopped a vehicle for an over due inspection sticker. At the time of the stop, police could smell a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the operator and his vehicle. The operator admitted to smoking a bowl prior to the stop. Consent was given to search the vehicle and no drugs were located. Operator received a ticket for insurance and a written warning for the inspection sticker.

6:36 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police performed a child safety seat installation. Northfield Police have a nationally certified child safety seat technician and he will do inspection and installation at no charge to the public.

9:45 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to a local business that had just closed for the day and reported a suspicious vehicle hanging around outside of the business. Police responded and identified the suspicious vehicle and was able to determine that the subject in the vehicle had stopped to talk on the phone.

10:19 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police responded to a 911 call from a local, elderly resident for an unknown problem. Police responded and spoke with the resident. Police assisted the resident with adjusting her thermostat.

February 21

2:37 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a noise complaint. Police responded to the location and determined that a noise violation did exist and two of the residents of the apartment were issued written warnings for the noise and advised any future violations would result in a ticket that would carry a fine. There were no further complaints.

1:27 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police met with a resident in regards to suspicious text messages and an ongoing dispute. Based upon what Police were told, no criminal violations had taken place. The resident also inquired about the possibilities of a restraining order, so Police provided the appropriate information to apply for one through the Washington County Courts.

3:02 p.m. - Controlled Substance Problem - Police stopped a motor vehicle on Doyon Road for an inspection violation. Upon contacting the operator, Police detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana emanating from within the vehicle. Police received consent to search the vehicle from the operator. During the search, Police found a marijuana pipe with burnt residue in the possession of one of the passengers. No charges were filed.

11:58 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - Police received a complaint from a citizen regarding a harassing phone call she had received. The officer spoke with both parties and resolved the situation.

February 22

12:58 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to Cemetery Street for a report of a suspicious circumstance. Overnight, the complainant heard several juveniles in the cemetery lighting off fireworks and being rowdy. Police responded but were unable to find anything to substantiate the complainant

2:48 p.m. - Accident PD - The department received a call about an accident that had happened four hours prior. The caller advised that as she was waiting on VT Rt 64 to turn onto vt rt 12 she was rear-ended. The operator of the second car had a broken headlight and damaged grill. The callers bumper and rear panel had been damaged. There were no injuries. Information was exchanged at the scene and the operators left.

February 23

1:55 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - The department was requested to send an officer to the Falls Trailer Park. The caller was stating that her neighbor had vandalized her property, again. The officer responded and took the report.

6:25 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police were dispatched to Rt. 64 for a tractor trailer unit that was stuck and could not make it up the hill due to snow and ice on the roads. Prior to arrival the officer was dispatched to a more serious complaint and could not immediately respond to the tractor trailer unit. After handling the priority complaint the officer responded to Rt. 64 and found the tractor trailer unit was gone on arrival.

6:36 p.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Vine Street. The operator of the vehicle stated he was traveling down Vine Street and lost control of his vehicle during a snowstorm striking a concrete pole. Damage was estimated at $2500 and there were no injuries. A crash report was completed and the operator was given the appropriate form to complete and file

with the state. 6:57 p.m. - Accident PI - Police responded to Rt. 12 South for a report of a motor vehicle crash with possible injuries. Upon arrival to the scene it was determined that no crash had occurred but the vehicle had slid off the roadway due to snow and ice on the roads. The operator was not injured and no damage was done to the vehicle. The officer stood by while the vehicle was towed back onto the road. tion.
