MARCH 14 TO 20

March 14: Sunday at 6 and 7:15 p.m., back-to-back episodes of the BBC’s “Lark Rise to Candleford” tell of late-19thcentury life in an English market town and nearby hamlet.

At 8:30 p.m. on "The Priests in Concert at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral," the acclaimed trio of Catholic priests from Northern Ireland performs in England at the historic Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King. On the program are "Amazing Grace," "How Great Thou Art" and "Danny Boy."

At 10 p.m. on “Tommy Emmanuel: Center Stage,” the celebrated acoustic guitarist delivers a performance with his trademark showmanship, flawless skills and vast repertoire. During the broadcast, tickets to his upcoming VPT benefit concert in S. Burlington will be available.

March 15: Monday at 7:30 p.m. on Vermont Public Television’s “Profile,” Fran Stoddard interviews Tanya Lee Stone of S. Burlington, Vt., a former editor and author of books for young readers, including stories of Amelia Earhart and Ella Fitzgerald.

At 8 p.m., the intimate 1995 performance “John Denver: The Wildlife Concert” returns to VPT. It features such classics as “Rocky Mountain High” and “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

At 9:30 p.m. on “Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk” anthropologist Wade Davis, river advocate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and their daughters take a rafting expedition down the Colorado River. Their adventure provides dramatic commentary on a threatened ecosystem.

March 16: Tuesday at 8 p.m., VPT brings back a central episode of Ken Burns’ “The Civil War.” “The Universe of Battle, 1963” covers the Battle of Gettysburg, the first use of black Union troops and Lincoln’s poignant Gettysburg address.

At 10 p.m. “Visions of Italy: Southern Style” takes a breathtaking aerial tour with evocative music of Italian composers.

March 17: Wednesday from 7:30 to 11 p.m. is an evening of “VPT Favorites.” Selected shortly before air, the lineup may include encores of viewers’ favorites or programs not previously seen.

March 18: Thursday at 8 p.m., “Making Sense New England” looks at how the economic downturn is affecting northern New England and what people are doing about it. A coproduction of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont Public Television, the project includes online and community resources. In a VPT-produced story, St. Albans-based Vermont Associates for Training and Development has centers around the state where mature workers can secure paid internships at public and non-profit organizations that lead to employment. Peter Post of Burlington's Emily Post Institute talks about recession etiquette.

At 8:30 p.m., “Report From Montpelier” brings state legislators to the VPT studio for a live call-in program in which viewers can ask questions on the issues of the day. Mark Johnson hosts. The program will also be webcast live on www.vpt.org and archived online as video on demand.

March 19: Friday at 10 p.m., “Independent Lens” presents “Butte, America.” This story of long-term hard rock mining in Montana looks at the consequences for the environment and for families whose lives have long been tied to the industry.

March 20: Saturday is a day of round-the-clock “VPT Favorites” from 6 a.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday. Selected shortly before air, the lineup may include encores of viewers’ favorites or programs not previously seen.
