M. Jan Gray Micks, 88, Early Environmentalist

M. Jean Gray Micks, 88, long time resident of Turkey Hill Road, died Friday, February 19, 2010 at Mayo Healthcare in Northfield. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 31, 1921, the daughter of Harold & Marion (Allen) Gray.

She was the beloved wife of the late, Philip R. Micks.

Jean was an active member of the community, often volunteering for many causes. She loved her animals and was a strong supporter of the SPCA. She was an early and long time environmentalist. She was also a bibliophile and supporter of the Brown Public Library in Northfield. She doted on her grandnephews, Matthew & Tristan, carefully planning and supervising extensive annual Vermont historical and cultural tours for them.

Survivors include her nephew, Robert Gray and his wife, Earlene McKinnon-Gray of Stratford, Prince Edward Island; grandnephews, Matthew and Tristan McKinnon-Gray; sister in-law, Claudia Vogel Gray of Appleton, Wisconsin; special friends, John Kingston, Floyd and Patricia Stuart of Northfield.

In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her brother, Allen Gray.

Services were held at Kingston Funeral Home in Northfield. Burial will take place at a later date in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Deposit, New York. Donations may be made in her memory to the Brown Public Library, 93 South Main Street, Northfield, VT 05663.
