March 21: Sunday, the “VPT Favorites” weekend continues. Selected shortly before air, the lineup may include encores of viewers’ favorites or programs not previously seen.

March 22: Monday at 7:30 p.m. on Vermont Public Television’s “Profile,” Fran Stoddard talks with Cornelius Hogan of Plainfield, Vt. He served many years as the state’s secretary of Human Services and now works as a consultant on the well-being of children.

At 9 p.m. “The Lobotomist: American Experience” recalls when the lobotomy, which began as an operation of last resort, became popular at state asylums across the country. It was one of modern medicine’s great mistakes.

At 10 p.m., “American Masters” presents the dramatic story of John James Audubon. His monumental volume “The Birds of America” contained 435 portraits of every bird then known in the U.S.

March 23: Tuesday at 9 p.m., VPT begins re-airing the latest season of “Emerging Science.” Today’s program explores the wonders of the cosmos with two of Vermont’s leading astronomical physicists, John O’Meara of St. Michael’s College and Joanna Rankin of the University of Vermont. Like many local productions, it is available on demand on www.vpt.org.

At 9:30 p.m., the series “Music Voyager” goes to Jamaica with host Jacob Edgar. He meets artists who are keeping roots reggae -- and the memory of Bob Marley -- going strong.

At 10 p.m., “Frontline: Close to Home” chronicles how the middle class is faring in the recession by focusing on a New York City salon. The program will also air Wednesday at 9 on VPT’s World Channel.

March 24: Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., “VPT Cooks: Simply Maple” celebrates Vermont’s sweet taste of spring with home cooks who make traditional recipes like Maple Sweet Potato Pie. Cookbooks will be available during the broadcast.

At 9:30 p.m. on “Tommy Emmanuel: Center Stage,” the celebrated acoustic guitarist delivers a performance with his trademark showmanship, flawless skills and vast repertoire. During the broadcast, tickets to his upcoming VPT benefit concert in S. Burlington will be available.

March 25: Thursday at 8 p.m., the March edition of “VPT Public Square” looks at the 2010 Census and its effect on Vermont and Vermonters. Kristin Carlson hosts.

At 9 p.m. on “The This Old House Hour,” the Roxbury renovation faces a month of rain, but foundation and structural work move forward.

March 26: Friday at 10 p.m.,

Independent Lens” presents

Lost Souls (Animas Perdidas).” Filmmaker Monika Navarro explores national identity, the lives of immigrants and what happens when deportees are sent back to a place they no longer consider home.

March 27: Saturday is a

round-the-clock lineup of “VPT Favorites.” Selected shortly before air, it may include encores of viewers’ favorites or programs not previously seen.
