United Way

TO THE EDITOR: THE NORTHFIELD NEWS THE GREEN MOUNTAIN United Way (GMUW) is a local organization that serves the people of Washington, Orange, Caledonia, Essex and Orleans counties. It does so by collaborating with several other local initiatives that work for the economic advancement and the health and well being of our local people, and to provide effective early learning opportunities for our children.

As a member of its Board of Directors, I feel very strongly about GMUW especially when I see the good work they are doing in our communities. Here are just a couple of examples. Working diligently with parents and caregivers to provide them and their toddlers the resources they need to be sure the children are ready for school, and, bringing financial literacy workshops to our high school students so they are better equipped to manage financially when they go on to college, the military or in the workforce are real positive outcomes that will make our area more vibrant and a better place for all to live and work.

GMUW has been conducting its 2009 – 2010 annual fundraising campaign to raise $650,000 before March 31st. The tally is now at $641,337. That means there is only

$8,663 left to receive to reach that $650,000 goal.

To those who have already given, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. To those who have not yet given, please consider sending your taxdeductible gift today to: GMUW, 963 Paine Turnpike N #2, Montpelier, VT 05602.

Remember, GMUW is a local organization and your donation stays right here in Washington, Orange, Caledonia, Essex and Orleans counties to assist local needs.
