Some important additions to the child and youth collections at Brown Public Library have been made as a result of donations from the Northfield Rotary Club.
Over 30 book/CD read-along kits were purchased from the $500 gift of the Northfield Rotary Club for this purpose. Each kit contain a book so that a child can follow along with the story while the narrator reads the book aloud on a CD. This can be an invaluable boost for a beginning reader. These are also great for assisting readers in trying out new and challenging books. They are fun and excellent for long car rides.
The library has purchased books at many levels and has included both fiction and non-fiction in the collection. Read-alongs include the comical Sheep in a Jeep, Curious George Learns the Alphabet, Louise, The Adventures of a Chicken and other picture books for preschool children. There’s a lovely book called Mole Music about a mole that plays Brahms and Beethoven on a violin, charming and confusing the people on the ground above its burrow. This CD contains excerpts of the music mentioned. We have beginning books and chapter books for our emergent readers such as Henry and Mudge, a book on sharks, Rotten Ralph, and more. There are also several books for more advanced readers, including a Shredderman book and one in the Sammy Keys series. Come in and see the complete collection for yourself!
All of this has been made possible by the generosity and support of the Northfield Rotary Club.
