Doris M. Dills Ingalls, 70, Famous for Wedding Cakes

WEST CHESTERFIELD, NH - Doris M. Dills Ingalls, 70, of Poor Road, died peacefully of natural causes at her residence early Saturday morning, March 6, 2010.

She was born in Morganton, N.C. on August 23, 1939, the daughter of Allie and Muriel (Greene) Dills.

Doris spent the majority of her adult life in N.H. after moving to Northfield, Vermont from Hickory, N.C. where she spent the first 15 years of her life.

Doris was a graduate of the Thompson School of Nursing where she earned her L.P.N. She had been employed at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital for 27 years after which she worked as a private duty nurse until her retirement. She was a “nurse’s nurse” and was loved by her patients and respected by her peers.

During her retirement years she was well known as a creator of beautiful wedding cakes and one of kind bridal headpieces.

For years she was plagued by many health problems but through it all, kept her faith and remained more concerned about others than herself.

Steadfast in her spiritual walk, she loved Jesus and is now sitting at his feet in glory. Doris was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church in Morganton, N.C. and with her husband attended Pioneer Baptist Church in Chesterfield.

On December 19, 1959 in Chesterfield she was married to Myron R. ”Bob” Ingalls, Jr. who survives.

Besides her loving husband of 50 years, she leaves one son, David W. Ingalls and wife Jane of Brattleboro, two grandchildren, Michaela and Jacob, a sister Phyllis Dills Banner and husband Raymond of Morganton, one brother, Charles Dills and wife Toni, also of Morganton, and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, one brother, Thomas E. Dills, and a sister, Martha L. Dills.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 10th at the Pioneer Baptist Church, Rt. 63 in Chesterfield, NH with Pastor Fred Laughman, officiating.

Friends were invited to a calling hour at the church prior to the services.

Burial will take place in Chesterfield West Cemetery in the springtime when the cemetery reopens.
