Marilore Willett Brooks, 89, Secretary At Norwich
Marilore (Willett) Brooks, 89, died peacefully in her sleep, on March 4, 2010, at Silver Creek Manor, Bristol, RI, after months of declining health.
Born July 20, 1920, in Lynn, MA, to Charles and Marie (LeComte) Willett, she graduated from Lynn English High School in 1939. After high school, she worked at Sylvania until her marriage to John F. Curtis. They moved from Swampscott, MA, to East Brookfield, VT, in 1951, and then to Northfield in 1956.
Marilore will be remembered for her outgoing personality that found an outlet as a secretary at Norwich University and later in the hospitality industry in Brattleboro, VT and in Rhode Island where she moved with her second husband, the late Judge Dale Brooks. Marilore’s warm heart and generous nature manifested itself through many acts of kindness, especially toward children. She was a foster mother in Rhode Island for many years and received the Foster Mother of the Year award in 1995.
Marilore is survived by her daughter Diane C. Powers, and husband, Roddy, of Carlisle, MA; daugher Susan M. LeBlanc, of Bristol, RI; son Michael C. Curtis and his partner Darlene Goodrich, of Northfield, VT. She also leaves her sister Jacqueline W. Richman and husband, Robert, of Mechanicsville, VA.; seven grandchildren, Carla Amaral, Michelle Thies of RI, Mark Powers, Saco, ME, Ellen Powers, Boston, MA, Nicole, Meaghan, and Katie LeBlanc, Gardner, MA; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to Judge Brooks, she was predeceased by her brother, Giles F. Willett, and a grandson, Michael Jason Curtis.
A funeral service was held Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, in Bristol, Rhode Island. Those who wish to remember Marilore may make a donation to Northfield Memorial Park, Municipal Building, 51 South Main Street, Northfield, VT 05663.
