Prevention Day Set For April 14
Prevention Day, which runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Statehouse lawn, is a showcase where coalitions like Drug-Free Partnership can share successes with their Representatives in Montpelier. The day will also be an opportunity for these groups to shine a spotlight on the true champions of prevention: local youth.
“This is an event that will let us toot our own horns a bit, but more importantly, it’s a chance to really spread the word about all the incredible stuff our middle and high school students are up to in the prevention world,” said Roxanne Benson, Executive Director of the Drug- Free Partnership. “Our work only a success because we have youth who are concerned, interested and engaged in the work that needs to be done to prevent substance abuse from occurring in our community.”
Prevention Day will include a variety of opportunities for area youth and other community members to participate in the day. The Drug-Free Partnership will have a presentation table on the Statehouse lawn, where visitors can learn about what the group has been up to. There will also be an opportunity for those who attend from this region to meet with their local Senators and Representatives to discuss the importance of substance abuse prevention in the community. A group photo will also be taken of those who wish to participate and show their support for the 21 Minimum Legal Drinking Age. Finally, in the afternoon, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream will be served.
