Northfield Police Report

March 17

8:29 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – A Northfield resident came to the Northfield Police Department with a letter that was delivered to his US Postal Service mail Box. The letter was from Africa and was addressed to the Northfield resident who advised that he did not request the information or correspondence with this female subject who also sent photographs as well as contact information. The resident was advised to make a complaint with the Post office.

4:58 p.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Vt Rt 12 and 12A within the Town of Northfield. Three motor vehicles were involved and there were no injuries. A vehicle attempting to make a left turn onto 12A from 12 collided with a vehicle headed south on 12. The turning vehicle then struck the front drivers side bumper of a truck stopped on 12A awaiting to turn out onto Vt Rt12.

March 18

12:53 a.m. - DUI - Bruce Madison, age 62 of Northfield Falls, Vermont was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Madison

was stopped on North Main Street in Northfield, Vermont for operating without his headlights on. Police detected a moderate odor of intoxicants and Madison did poorly on field sobriety exercises. Madison was taken into custody and at 02:20 hours, Madison had a BAC of .094%.

1:37 p.m. - Accident PD - A call was received regarding damage to a vehicle. About a week ago the vehicle was parked in a parking lot at G U Markets for about six hours. When returning to the parked vehicle the caller noticed the headlight was broken and the grill in front of the radiator had been broken in towards the radiator. It was unknown who hit the car. If anyone has any information please contact the Northfield Police.

4:08 p.m. - Alcohol Offense - The staff at the Northfield Middle High School called to report an incident involving alcohol. The report is for file only. A student reportedly had a small unopened container of alcohol that was unintentionally brought to school. When discovered was immediately reported and given to staff. Nothing further required.

4:03 p.m. - Litter/Pollution/Public Health - Police responded to a local business who had discovered that someone had dumped some household trash into their dumpster. Police recovered evidence from the dumpster took photographs and obtained statements from an eyewitness concerning this matter. Enforcement action is pending.

11:23 p.m. - DUI - Andrea Lucey, age 49 of South Burlington VT was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Lucey was stopped on VT Rte 12 in Berlin for defective equipment and crossing the center line. Police could detect an odor of intoxicants emitting from Lucey. Lucey performed poorly on the field sobriety exercises. Lucey had a evidentiary test of .073% BAC at 00:59 hours.

March 19

5:23 p.m. - Illegal Burning - Police were advised by the Town of Northfield Fire Warden concerning an illegal burn barrel on Water Street. The Warden was advised to contact State Environmental Conservation Air Quality Control for enforcement action.

7:57 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a complaint of individuals walking down the railroad tracks with flashlights. The complainant advised that she thought that they were looking for something. Police responded to the area and did not locate any one on the tracks.

8:35 p.m. - Alcohol Offense - Police stopped a vehicle on North Main Street for speeding. While speaking with the operator, Police could smell a strong odor of intoxicants emitting from the vehicle. The driver performed the standardized field sobriety exercises and had a BAC of .000%. Two of the female passengers were under twenty one. They had BAC's of .028% and .071%. Both consumers were referred to Teen Alcohol Safety Program.

March 20

10:18 a.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to Water Street for a report of a citizen dispute. Upon arrival, it was determined that two residents had been engaged in a verbal argument. No physical altercation had occurred upon investigation. Police gave several contacts to outside agencies to the complainant in an effort to help curb any future problems.

3:20 a.m. - Unsecure Premise - Police located an open door on an area business located of of Rte. 12 South. Police were looking into a report of a homeless man hanging out in the area when they located the open door. Police did a building search and located no one in the business. Police secured the premiss prior to leaving the area. Police did not locate the homeless person and where unable to locate him anywhere in the area.

7:41 p.m. - Citizen Assist - A resident of Water came to the police station looking for assistance regarding her current living arrangements. The officer assisted her by providing her resources for landlord tenant law and other services. The officer also assisted her by escorting her from her current apartment due to her discomfiture at her current situation.

March 21

11:27 a.m. - MV Complaint - Police responded to Moody Lane for a motor vehicle complaint. Police were advised that a vehicle that was abandoned at a residence for several days and was disabled. Upon arrival, Police found that the vehicle was on private property. Police attempted to locate the owners of the vehicle, but were unsuccessful. Because the vehicle was on private property, it was towed by the complainant.

3:05 p.m. - Animal Problem - An officer responded to the Northfield Falls Trailer park for the report of a loose dog. The dog was retrieved and brought to the kennel.

4:38 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - An officer responded to Dog Wood Glen apartments for the

report of an unlawful mischief complaint. Upon arrival the complainant could not be located. Attempts to contact the complainant back have gone un-returned.

5:14 p.m. - Animal Problem - An officer responded to Vermont Route 12 north near the Falls Trailer park for the report of two loose dogs. The dogs were gathered up and brought to the pound.
