Evelyn C. Matheson, 92, Worked In Seniors Companion Program

WILLIAMSTOWN – Evelyn C. Matheson, 92, a former Williamstown Square and Northfield Road resident, died Thursday, April 1, 2010, at the Augusta Rehabilitation Center in Augusta, Maine.

Born on October 2, 1917, in Plainfield, she was the daughter of Alfred and Lillian May (Jarvis) Rivers. She attended Brookside School in Barre Town and later received her GED from Williamstown High School.On Sept. 20, 1933, she married A'Delbert Ellis. He predeceased her. Later on Aug. 2, 1952, she married John White. He predeceased her in 1975. They made their home in Vermont and Connecticut. On Aug. 4, 1984, she married John B. Matheson. They made her home in Williamstown. She later moved from her Northfield Road residence to Williamstown Square. He died Sept. 23, 1988.

Evelyn was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family. Her other interests included crocheting and her floral plants. For several years, she worked in the Senior Companion Program in the Williamstown and Barre area.

She was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Williamstown and in earlier years, St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre.

She is survived by her sons, Joseph Ellis of Augusta, Maine, and A'Delbert Ellis Jr. and his wife, Hazel of Barre; her daughter, A'Della Hebert and her husband, Clifford of Williamstown; a step-son, David White and his wife, Ruth of Columbia, Md.; and step-daughter, Susan Northcutt of Titusville, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; 45 greatgrandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 9, 2010, at 11 a.m. in St. Edward's Catholic Church in Williamstown. Interment will take place in the Plain-Mont Cemetery in East-Montpelier. There are no calling hours.
