Northfield Police Report
March 24
10:25 a.m. - Animal Problem - The department was advised of an unleashed black lab that was walking in the Northfield Falls Trailer Park. The animal control officer was contacted and the dog was given a place to rest until its owner took it home.
5:44 p.m. - Theft - A citizen called the Northfield Police Department and reported that his two license plates were no longer on his vehicle and thinks they have been stolen. The vehicle was parked at a local business. The Missing/Stolen plates are Vermont registration EXF313. It is not certain that the plates if stolen were stolen while the vehicle was in Northfield. The plates have been listed in the NCIC computer.
6:29 p.m. - Theft of Automobile - Police received a walk in complaint of a possible stolen vehicle. Police after listening to the complainant advised her that the vehicle is not technically stolen due to the fact that she had entered into a transaction with him. The complainant wants to get the vehicle back to get rid of it. The complainant advised that he did not pay the loan as she agreed and the bank has defaulted her on the loan.
March 25
10:04 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police took a report concerning the embezzlement of an amount of money that had been donated to a local resident as part of a fund drive. The matter concerning the embezzlement has only come to light now that the fund raiser has been completed.
3:46 p.m. - Found Property - A citizen of Northfield brought a scooter to the police department that had been found. The citizen advised that he had seen the scooter on Holland Place between the American legion and the Depot Pizzeria for the last three days. If you are missing this scooter, please call Northfield Police and claim your property.
March 26
12:49 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a noise complaint on Washington Street in Northfield Vermont. When Police arrived, They observed loud music and voices emitting from the residence. There was a small party going on at the residence. Police issued both the tenants a Vermont Municipal Complaint for disorderly conduct for loud and unreasonable noise.
1:21 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a noise disturbance in which a motorcycle was being throttled up and making harsh noise. Upon the arrival of the police the parties involved had left the area and the motorcycle had been put away. Police spoke to a male subject in the area who advised that they had just moved the motorcycle to the area for storage and wanted to start it up and advised it was loud. No further complaints or action.
8:31 p.m. - Theft - Police received a complainant of a gas drive off from South Village Mobile. The complainant advised that the customer came in and prepaid $10.00 for gas. The employee put the prepaid amount on the wrong pump and the person ended up with $19.97 in gas. Police advised that they would attempt to contact the person to see if he is willing to pay the $9.97 for the extra gas he received.
11:20 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to Central Street for a noise complaint. The complainant advised that the neighbor from the adjoining apartment came over and yelled at her 14 year daughter
earlier in the evening because he felt the TV was to loud. Police have spoken with both parties and advised them that the walls are thin in the old building and the noise carries easily through them.
March 27
3:40 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to the Rustic parking lot for a report of a vehicle with its lights on. When Police arrived, they found a female attempting to start the vehicle but the battery was dead. The woman and her counter parts had been consuming alcohol and were advised to go back to the apartment they had left to spend the night and sleep it off. The occupants went back up stairs and went to bed.
10:14 a.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - Police received a report of a phone problem from a Dogwood Glenn resident. Police were advised of an unwanted caller calling the complainant. The complainant advised that the incident has been ongoing, and had originally started in the City of Barre. Police made arrangements to meet with the complainant to further discuss the issue, but the complainant never showed up as planned.
7:15 p.m. - Theft - An officer responded to Crawford Hall at Norwich University for the report of a theft. A student advised he was using a friends room and had locked it when he left. Upon his return, he noticed several items missing from the room. The students who live in the room were notified and will be completing statements about the missing property upon their return to campus.
8:20 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police were dispatched to Rte. 12 North to dispatch an injured deer. Police located the injured animal and dispatched it. A citizen heard the call on the scanner and came up and retrieved the deer. Police had dispatch check the person identification and the deer was released to him. No further action taken.
11:36 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to a residence on 4th Street after a neighbor heard yelling coming from the residence. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the residents and discovered that a verbal argument had occurred between the two residents but the argument was now over. Both parties advised the officers that the argument was verbal in nature and they were both fine. No additional police assistance was required.
March 28
2:08 p.m. - DUI - Daniel B. Purdy, age 22 of Union Springs, NY was issued a citation to appear in the Washington County District Court to answer the charge of Driving under the influence of alcohol. Purdy was stopped for speeding on North Main Street in Northfield Vermont. Purdy had a strong odor of in toxicants emitting from him and he did poorly on sobriety exercises. At 03:17 hours, Purdy had a evidentiary test of .180% BAC.
2:30 p.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - Officers responded to the report of the family disturbance at the Dog Wood Glen apartment complex. Upon arrival officers spoke with the parties involved. Both advised the argument had been verbal in nature. Both parties agreed to separate for the afternoon.
5:28 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - An officer responded to the area of Well Field Lane, and the property north of it for the report of two vehicles which had been mudding on private property. The property owner was notified of the situation. Arrangements were made to have the vehicles removed. The property owner reached an agreement with the offending motorists to repair the damage to his property in lieu of criminal trespass by motor vehicle charges.
10:44 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police assisted a citizen with trying to retrieve his belongings from his former girlfriend. The officer responded with the complainant to ensure there would be no problems while he retrieved his belongings. The complainant however was not able to get his belongings as no one was home at the residence. The complainant advised the officer he may call back at a later time to request assistance in getting his property back.
March 29
7:22 a.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to West Hill Road for a report of a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, Police found that a motorist had lost control of the vehicle, due to poor road conditions, and had collided with a tree. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Baroffio's Garage, and Police completed a crash report documenting the collision.
8:58 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police received a report of a found canine from a Smith Hill Road resident. Police received a walk-in complaint of a found Beagle. The canine had no tags and was found meandering around the area of Smith Hill Road. The complainant advised that he would bring the canine to the Barroffio's Kennel until the owner could be identified.
1:03 a.m. - Theft - Police were advised of a theft from Crescent Avenue. Police were advised that a stop sign had been unlawfully taken, after it was unbolted from a pole. The stop sign was replaced to ensure for the safety of motorists, and to prevent any motor vehicle collisions.
