Gleneita M. Diego, 94, Had Diego’s Market On Water Street
Gleneita M. Diego, 94, died Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Mayo Healthcare in Northfield. She was born in Poughkeepsie, New York on December 26, 1915, the daughter of Harley & Ellen (Maloney) Rice.
She married John Ramon Diego in Randolph in 1931. John died on October 19, 1984.
She and her husband, John, owned and operated Diego’s Market in Northfield for 40 years, she later worked at the Northfield Woolen Mill for 10 years and owned and operated Papa John’s Restaurant in Northfield from 1978 to 1982.
She was a member of St. John The Evangelist Church in Northfield. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and was an exceptional cook.
Survivors include her son, John R. Diego and his wife, Patricia (Mazuzan) of Essex Junction; her daughter, Denise Diego Diehl of Northfield; 13 grandchildren, John & Kathy Diego of Essex, Daphne & Peter Jensen of Addison, Christopher & Krista Diego of Whitefield, NH, Peter Diego of Burlington, Crispin & Heather Michaud of E. Montpelier, Eric & Cynthia Michaud of E. Montpelier, Andrew Michaud of Northfield, Deirdra & Matthew Ritzer of Northfield, Mark & Kathy Diego of Middlesex, Richard & Jennifer Barr of Middlesex, Frank & Cindy Barr of Riverton, Maria & Michael Roddy of Alpharetta, GA, Timothy & Jennifer Diego of Montpelier; 23 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, John, she is predeceased by two sons, Ricardo and Ramon Diego.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, April 11th from 4-6 p.m. at the Kingston Funeral Home, 35 Slate Avenue in Northfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, April 12 at 11 a.m. at St. John The Evangelist. Donations may be made in her memory to St. John The Evangelist Church, 206 Vine Street, Northfield, VT 05663.
