Poll Shows Vermonters Want Nuclear Power

The Northfield News

Readers of the Northfield News on-line were asked how they wanted electrical power to be generated in this state in the future to solve our electrical power needs.

Respondents were asked “How is the best way for Vermont to generate its power?”

The choices offered were nuclear, wind, solar, water or natural gas.

The poll was not scientific and was answered by anyone who clicked on the poll and wanted to respond. However, the site does limit answers to one answer per respondent from the same computer.

49 per cent believed that the best way to satisfy Vermont’s future electrical power needs was from nuclear power.

26 per cent believed that wind power was best while 9 per cent answered that they preferred solar, 15 per cent water power and only 2 per cent from natural gas.

The poll did not ask whether respondents wanted to retain Vermont Yankee and as a result, it would be impossible to determine whether those who answered thought that the present power plant in southern Vermont should be relicensed or whether a new one should be built to satisfy Vermonter’s needs.

A new poll now asks “How should Vermont generate nuclear power?” Respondents may answer, Vermont Yankee, New Power Plant, Do Not Favor Nuclear or don’t know.

Responses will be published in the paper in the future or you may go on-line and see how the poll is progressing by going to
