Northfield Police Report
April 7
8:14 a.m. - Juvenile Problem - Police responded to a residence in Northfield concerning a young juvenile male who was eluding his parents so that he would not have to attend school. Police responded and spoke with the juveniles father who was keeping an eye on his son who was out in a field but would run if approached. Agreed to wait it out for a few hours and the child did come back home without incident.
11:34 a.m. - Theft - Police took a complaint concerning a motor vehicle parked on the campus of Norwich University in which sometime over the night time hours a person(s) smashed out a car window and took a pair of sunglasses and some US currency from the vehicle.
3:01 p.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to a two car crash on South Main Street at the intersection of Noridge Drive. There were no injuries and minor damage. Vehicle 1 was pulling out of Noridge Drive entering South Main Street when it struck the passenger side rear quarter panel of Vehicle 2 which was headed north on South Main Street.
5:09 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police were contacted concerning a dog bite in which the victim was seeking information on the dog that had bitten her and was unable to determine if the dog had it's rabies shots. The victim was treated by her primary health care provider for a puncture wound just above her ankle. Police made contact with the dog owners and the dogs veterinarian and confirmed that the dog was up to date on his shots. The victim was advised.
9:56 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police were contacted by Montpelier Police to serve a notice against trespass on a Northfield resident. Montpelier Police advised that an employee at Shaws and a resident of Northfield observed a female operating a motor vehicle who is criminally suspended. She notified police of the violation and the female was picked up. The complainant went out to her vehicle later in the day and found her tires slashed.
April 8
5:20 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - Police responded to a request from a parent to investigate the location of a juvenile who was inside a residence whom the parent did not know. Police responded and the juvenile had not told his parent where he was going to be after school. The parent requested that police talk with her son concerning the dangers of not letting your parents know where and who you are hanging out with after school.
6:46 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police responded to a residence on North Main Street for a male youth who was acting up. The child was acting out after mom and dad punished him for an incident that he was involved in at school. Police counseled the child and hopefully there will be no reoccurrence of the situation.
7:21 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police were advised of an animal complaint at Dog Wood Glen Apartments. The complainant advised that her neighbor was out of town and had left her cat in the house without food or water. Due to the lateness of the notification, police advised dispatch to contact the day sift when they could get hold of a manager of the apartments to gain entry in the building. The tenant returned in the morning.
April 9
12:56 a.m. - DLS - Francis R. Jones, age 25 of Northfield Vermont was arrested for driving while license suspended. Jones was stopped off of Lovers Lane after police observed him turn off his lights, turn left into a driveway off of Lovers Lane and attempt to drive up a driveway in the dark. Jones is cited to appear in the Washington County District Court on 4-29-10 at 12:00 pm to answer the charge.
2:19 a.m. - Assault - Isaiah Jordon Quinones, age 19 of Roslindale Massachusetts was arrested for simple assault. On 4-9-10 at approximately 02:19 hours, Northfield Police responded to Crawford Hall for a report of an assault. The complainant advised he and Quinones had words and that Quinones struck him in the face several times causing him pain and injury. Quinones is cited to appear on 5-6-10 a 12:00 pm to answer the charges.
6:10 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - The department was notified of an idling delivery truck on South Main street that was in violation of a neighborhood agreement. The complainant understood there was not an officer to respond, but wanted the incident recorded. A short time later the complainant advised dispatch that he had talked with his neighbor and the situation was resolved.
10:46 a.m. - Theft - Police took a complaint concerning a missing kitten as well as missing items from a WIC food delivery. The victim in this matter had been gone for several days and upon returning found her kitten missing and part of her WIC order gone. Police advised the victim to contact WIC so that the missing food could be replaced. Police do not know were the kitten is at the moment, and suspects someone took it home.
12:53 p.m. - Trespassing - Police were contacted by Vermont Housing Authority concerning tenants who had been evicted from an apartment have returned and are moving out their belongings after the locks had been changed. Police responded and the matter was resolved with Vermont Housing Authority. There was no damage done to the property and the matter was a misunderstanding as far as exact time the tenants had to be moved out.
2:39 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - Police took a complaint from a individual calling from New Hampshire who was complaining about a subject from Northfield calling and texting her and that she has told him to stop and has not. Police made contact with the subject involved and advised him to stop bothering this person or he could be charged with a criminal violation. He said he would stop.
11:12 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - While on duty an officer responded to a report of a suspicious individual attempting to enter the wrong residence on King street. After investigation, it was found that an unidentified individual mistakenly was looking to get to a house for a get together that was located two house down on the street.
April 10
12:21 a.m. - Alcohol Offense - An officer on patrol stopped a vehicle on South Main Street. During the traffic stop and subsequent investigation the officer identified three passengers of the vehicle who were under the age of 21 and had been consuming alcohol. They were issued referrals to the Washington County Teen Alcohol Safety Program.
12:57 a.m. - DUI - Bret Rhinehart age 49 of Flora, Indiana was arrested for DUI. An officer stopped Rinehart on Prospect Street for a defective equipment violation. Rinehart was screened for DUI. Rinehart provided a preliminary sample which indicated .089. He was transported to the police station where he submitted a breath sample which indicated a result of 0.072%. Rinehart was issued a citation to appear 4-29-10,
2:04 a.m. - Alcohol Offense - An officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. While investigating the officer found one of the passenger to be under 21 and had been consuming alcohol. The offender admitted to drinking. He was referred to the Teen Alcohol Safety Program. The operator of the vehicle received a warning for the traffic violation.
12:51 p.m. - Theft - Police were notified of a theft from Plaza Drive. Police were advised that a piece of property had been rented to a Northfield resident in Sept. 2009, who has failed to return it in a timely fashion. Police will be investigating further, and charges for theft of rental property may follow if appropriate.
4:26 p.m. - Accident PD - An officer responded to South Village Mobile for the report of a minor crash. Upon arrival the officer spoke with the operator who crashed into a parked car. Very minor damage was noted to the parked car. No injuries were reported. A state of Vermont Uniform Crash report was completed and pictures of the damage were taken. The operator was issued a ticket for driving while suspended.
7:30 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment – An officer was notified of a citizens complaint regarding disturbing phone calls. When the officer was back in the office and tried to talk with the citizen there was no answer to his phone call. He left a message for the citizen to call back. To date, no call back.
