Police Set Up Road Block To Nab Cadets, Get No Takers

The Washington county Sheriff’s Department has been active lately working along side the Northfield Police Department as well as the Department of Liquor Control.
The entire group converged on the Town of Northfield in response to Norwich University’s Junior Weekend.
Junior Weekend historically has been a time of consumption of large amounts of alcohol by those of age as well as those under age said a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.
They setup a Sobriety Checkpoint on Vermont Route 12 in front of Kenyon’s hardware store.
In the process 502 Vehicles were stopped, 910 Persons were interviewed, 27 Warnings issued and 6 Vermont Civil Violation Complaints were issued including four Seatbelt Enhancements, 1 Suspended Operator license violations while 2 Operators were screened for Alcohol Consumption.
Funding for the Checkpoint was provided by the Governor’s Highway Safety Council’s – DUI Program and Washington County S.T.A.R.T. Team
Two days later, the sheriff’s office stopped a vehicle early in the morning off the road on Warren Mountain Road in Roxbury.
Through further investigation, the sheriff’s office stated that Charles R. Menard, Age 30 of Roxbury was taken into custody for Suspected Operation While Under the Influence of Alcohol and transported to the Sheriff’s Department for processing. Mr. Menard was later released on a Citation to Appear at the District Court of Vermont, Washington County to answer to the charge of Operating While Under the Influence of Alcohol.
Then, later on in the morning, at 2:53 a.m., to be exact, the sheriff’s patrol people stopped another car being operated by Logan S. Oneill, Age 18 of Friendswood, TX for erratic operation on Vermont Route 12 in Northfield.
Mr. Oneill was taken into custody and transported to the Northfield Police Department for Suspected Operation While Under the Influence of Alcohol.
He was later released on a Citation to Appear at the District Court of Vermont, Washington County to answer to the charge of Operating While Under the Influence of Alcohol – Refusal to Submit to a Test.
Mr. Oneill was also issued Vermont Civil Violation Complaints for Driving on Roadways Laned for Traffic, and Refusal to Submit to a Preliminary Breath Test by a Person Under 21. Oneill and his 18 year old passenger were also issued referrals Teen Alcohol Safety Program.
