Considering the excitement building about Northfield High School’s prom night on May 29 and graduation on June 19, the board of Northfield/Roxbury’s Drug Free Partnership decided it was a great time to remind teens, parents and guardians of the problems involved when underage youth decide to drink or use illegal drugs.

“Our message to adults and their students who may be planning to host a party is that drinking is not legal, not safe, not healthy and not acceptable,” Carol Seaver Holt, of the Drug Free Partnership said.

“Our campaign, now in its third year, is called ‘Parents Who Host, Lose the Most: Don’t be a party to underage drinking’,” she said. “It’s more than a catchy name; it’s an important reminder to the friends and neighbors we care about.”

“Studies show that the ability to remember and to learn can be damaged when youth use alcohol. In a youth’s still developing brain, decision making and reasoning abilities can be affected by substance abuse,” Roxanne Benson, Director of the Drug Free Partnership, said.

The public is welcome to drop bt the Gray Building, Room 8, or call 485-8081 for information.
