Northfield Police Report
April 21
12:46 a.m. Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A residence of School Street called to report two suspicious people walking down the street, apparently stumbling. The complainant also advised it appeared the two were sharing a pipe. The officer located two juveniles. Both denied having any type of smokeable material. Both juveniles submitted samples of breath for preliminary breath test. Both indicated results of 0.000. The juveniles were released to responsible parties.
3:22 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A resident of Fairground Round called to report a relative had advised he was going to hurt himself, took a quantity of prescription pills, and then left the residence. The individual was located shortly thereafter, and transported to the hospital. The officer escorted the ambulance up as a precaution. The patient was admitted.
8:25 a.m. - Parking Problem - An officer on patrol located a vehicle parked on Pleasant Street which was subject to impoundment. The vehicle was impounded because the owner failed to respond to numerous parking tickets. The vehicle was towed.
9:49 a.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - Police took a complaint from a person who was having problems with three different subjects calling and texting to his cell phone after being asked to stop. The parties involved were contacted by police and advised to stop calling and texting.
6:18 p.m. - Burglary - A resident of Little Northfield Road came to the police station to report his house had been burglarized. The officer collected a statement regarding the missing property. The officer also spoke with several neighbors. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Northfield Police Department, Officer Brian Hoar.
April 22
12:36 a.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - An officer responded to the report of a family fight at a residence on Kent Street. Upon arrival the officer spoke with all the parties involved and was able to mediate the incident to everyone's agreement.
9:32 a.m. - Animal Problem - A caller advised that she had just picked two dogs up, a golden lab mix and a black and white friendly dog. The dogs were running in the road. The caller was afraid that they might get hit. There were no current tags on their collars, one had an 05 tag. After speaking with dispatch it was decided that the caller would give the dogs a ride to the kennels where the dogs could be safe.
10:08 p.m. - Controlled Substance Problem - Maria I. Lorentzon, age 20 of Shrewsbury Vermont and Scott W. Cole, age 21 of Wallingford Vermont were issued citations to appear in the Washington county District court on 6-3-10 at 12:00 pm to answer the charges of possession of marijuana. Police seized 5.3 grams of marijuana along with paraphernalia from Cole and Lorentzon after being called up to Norwich University by Norwich Security Officers after locating it.
April 23
4:11 a.m. – DUI – An officer received a report of a stolen vehicle. The victim later reported that his vehicle had just returned and that the driver was asleep on his couch. Maria Richardson of Montpelier was arrested for DUI, DLS, and taking vehicle without owner's consent. Ms. Richardson gave a sample of her breath which revealed a .172 BAC. Ms. Richardson was given a court date in May 2010.
10:32 a.m. - Controlled Substance Problem - Police were contacted by Norwich University concerning a matter in which an unlawful substance had been found by University staff while conducting a room search. Police responded and recovered a very small amount of a green leafy type matter that field tested positive for the drug Marijuana. Due to the very small residue amount seized by police, the matter will be handled internally by the university.
April 23
10:09 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police received a report of an animal problem on South Main Street. Police were advised that a canine had bitten the shoe of a postal worker. The postal worker was uninjured, and did not require medical attention. Police will contact with the canine owner and to speak with him about the incident and remind him of the animal control ordinance.
10:49 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A report was called in regarding some type of disturbance in the roadway on Vermont Route 12 south. Upon arrival the officers could not locate any type of disturbance.
4:20 p.m. - Property Damage, Non Vandalism - A resident of Moody Lane called to report her fence had been damaged when a neighbor's tree fell on it. Gravity had the better say in which direction the tree fell after being cut. The officer spoke with both parties and observed the damage to the fence. The parties worked out an agreement to fix the damage.
8:09 p.m. - Theft - A resident of Jefferson Avenue came to the police station to report a theft. The complainant completed a written sworn statement regarding his missing property.
9:31 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Daniell Benham age 21 of Beverly MA, was arrested for possession of a regulated drug. An officer was requested to respond to Norwich University for the report of some suspicious activity. Upon speaking with Danielle, she advised she purchased the drugs in Massachusetts.
11:37 p.m. - DUI - William Curran age 21 of Wakefield, MA was arrested for DUI. Curran was stopped for speeding on North Main Street. While speaking with Curran the officer could smell a strong odor of intoxicants. Curran performed the standardized field sobriety exercises and also took a preliminary breath test which indicated a result of 0.112% Brac. Curran was transported to the Northfield Police Department for processing.
April 25
1:16 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a report of a large, loud underage party with a bonfire on Kent Street in Northfield Vermont. Police observed a small controlled campfire with two male individuals sitting around it. There was no party at this residence as reported. Police asked them to turn the radio down and they obliged. No further action taken.
3:13 a.m. - Agency Assistance - Police assisted a Washington County Sheriffs Deputy with a DUI stop on VT Rte. 12 South in Northfield Vermont. Both the operator and his passenger were very intoxicated and both had recently left an underage party. The operators vehicle was towed by North Main Service.
12:34 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police were notified of a vandalism complaint at Dogwood Glen. Police were advised that it appeared that an object had been thrown through a second story window, damaging the screen. Police spoke with several neighbors in the building, none of whom had seen or hear anything suspicious.
April 26
8:40 a.m. - Theft - Police received a report of a theft from a Crescent Avenue resident. Police were told that an ATM card was stolen and fraudulently used to make several transactions in the Central Vermont area. Police are currently investigating the incident.
10:13 a.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to Davis Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle collision. There were no reported injuries. Police responded and found that a UPS delivery truck had struck a parked motor vehicle. Police took photos of the vehicles involved in the collision, and prepared a crash report for the operator's involved in the collision.
3:34 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police received a eport of a motor vehicle complaint on North Main Street. Police were told that round 6 a.m., a motorist was witnessed operating a motor vehicle unsafely. The complainant retrieved the license plate of the vehicle and provided it to the Police. Police made contact with the operator of the vehicle and warned him about the unsafe operation of his vehicle.
5:29 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a report of suspicious activity on VT RT 12A. Police were advised that an individual had exposed himself to other residents, specifically by 'mooning' them. Police gathered statements from the witnesses of the incident, and are investigating the incident further.
