Lorraine Knox Emmons, 96, Shelburne Museum Guide

WILLIAMSTOWN – Lorraine Knox Emmons, 96, a former resident of the Gardens, died Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.

Born on May 5, 1914, in Hinesburg, she was the daughter of William and Jennie (Clifford) Knox.

She attended elementary school in Hinesburg and graduated from Hinesburg High School.

On Sept. 12, 1935, she married Howard H. Emmons. Following their marriage, they made their home in several Vermont communities, Richmond, Hinesburg, Bristol and Barre, before moving to Williamstown. He died in 2000.

In earlier years, she had worked at a woolen mill in Winooski as a seamstress and for over 20 years as a guide at the Shelburne Museum. While living in Barre, she worked at the Sprague Electric Company.

Lorraine was affiliated with the First Baptist Church in Bristol and had been a member of the Grange and Eastern Star. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and gardening.

Survivors include her sons, Paul Emmons and his wife, Nancy, of Topsfield, Mass., and Mark Emmons and his wife, Peggy, of Barre Town; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, her half brother, William Knox Jr. predeceased her.

Her funeral services were held on May 20, 2010 at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home in Barre. Interment will take place in the Starksboro Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
