Someone hung a stunning bouquet of flowers on a utility pole near the town’s only red light last week. The simple sign with the flowers read, “Happy 60th Anniversary, Gibby and Leah.”

Hunter Johnson, age 11, was one of the many enjoying the NMHS spring concert “American Pride”. Attending was part of his birthday celebration. Hunter is still wearing an air cast around the bottom of his right leg. Last month he had to wear a half-cast and the entire month before that he wore a full cast. It seems that when Hunter slipped backward while skateboarding, the board flipped and smacked his leg. “That hurt!” was all he said at the time. He broke both his tibia and his fibula. Happy birthday, Hunter.
At the concert, Sarah DeFelice was one of several alumni who sprang from their seat when invited on stage to sing “Good Ole A Cappella” with the High School Class Act Chorus. A couple of days later, a teenager who is a member of the chorus was running a cash register downtown. He explained, “It’s a song they knew. It was fun to have them sing with us.” The joy of all the singers was evident and contagious.
On another note, Ms. DeFelice said it was her New Year’s resolution to learn to play the guitar. Unfortunately, her first guitar broke in half. Unfortunately, her second guitar had to be completely restrung but she hasn’t given up. Just graduated from UVM, this summer she plans to enjoy soccer, volleyball and sailing when she’s not working.

Gene Sevi is thankful that he was wearing a safety helmet while biking near his home in Roxbury last week. When the bike suffered a mechanical failure and Gene was thrown from the bicycle, he says the helmet probably saved his life. “I landed face first on the pavement. The helmet was smashed into several pieces,” he said. In addition to 18 stitches in his mouth, he suffered nasty looking bruises and scrapes. We wish you a speedy recovery, Gene.
Northfield police officers are giving certificates to children who they spot wearing a helmet while biking. Mr. Sevi was especially glad to hear that.
