Pearl M. Nadon, 91, Active Northfield Volunteer

Pearl M. Nadon, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died on May 30, 2010 at the Central Vermont Medical Center.

Pearl was born on May 20, 1919 in Hartford, Connecticut. She graduated from Laconia High School in 1934 and was crowned “Miss Laconia” in 1935. On September 4, 1937 she married her high school sweetheart, Gene Nadon, and shortly thereafter they relocated to Northfield. It was here Pearl began the career she was most proud of and exceptionally suited for. While Gene was busy establishing Rabbit Hollow Knitting Mill, Pearl was even busier being a devoted wife, keeping an impeccable home, and raising their four children. Early in their marriage she also managed Maple Lodge Cabins at their residence in Roxbury. Once her children were grown, she became the Administrative Assistant at Rabbit Hollow Knitting Mill and worked by her husband’s side until their retirement in the mid 1970’s. During this time she was a Den Mother, an active member of the United Methodist Church, a past Worthy Matron of The Naomi Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a charter member of both the Northfield Boating Club and the Northfield Historical Society.

Upon their retirement, Pearl and Gene enjoyed their summers together at their home on Shadow Lake in Glover, VT and their winters in Englewood, FL. When Gene passed away in 1996, Pearl returned to Northfield. Her final home was Mayo Assisted Living where she leaves a devoted staff who became loving members of her extended family.

Pearl enjoyed reading, sewing, was an enthusiastic baseball and football fan and an avid knitter.

Pearl is survived by her four children and their spouses, Sally and Jay Pedley, Carole and Reg Tucker, Fred Nadon and the mother of his children, Freda Nadon, and Jodi and Jack Leonard. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; Kevin, Fred, Jason and Tom Schroeder, Lisa Abrams, Sara Tucker Wolf, Tim Tucker, Mary and Darren Nadon, and Danielle, Kierney and Larry Leonard. In addition she leaves 13 precious great-children who will all grow up knowing how much their “GG” loved them all.

Pearl was predeceased by her husband of almost 60 years, her parents, a sister, a granddaughter, Carly Nadon, and a great granddaughter, Jayda Schroeder.

As per Pearl’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. There will be a private graveside service at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery in Northfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Mary Nadon Foundation (for Friedreich’s Ataxia), 246A Winch Hill Road, Northfield, VT 05663 or to the Northfield Historical Society, P.O. Box 422, Northfield, VT 05663. Kingston’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
