Rome is Burning
TO THE EDITOR: THE NORTHFIELD NEWS IAM WRITING in great response to an article previously printed on April 22 in the Northfield News. Its title made a bold statement: “Vermonters Want Nuclear Power.”
The great disclaimer was that its results were from an unofficial, thus unregulated, poll.
I am sure that his or her unofficial poll took account of all Vermont Yankee’s fumbles and leaks and now we got radio active fish in the Connecticut River of which is passing through several states and water systems before it spills into the ocean, let alone the most recent B.P. oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico that will all soon be shared by all coastlines in areas where the currents flow.
A Biblical statement comes to mind: “Forgive them Lord, for they know not what they have done.”
So is supporting nuclear power as Rome burns or supporting more oil explorations as the Earth turns beneficial to our children’s generation, let alone their children’s children and beyond.
And think about the unemployed or working poor folks who have always fished for dinner and still do.
Greed is an awful thing. Let’s do an official poll.
