Northfield Police Report
May 26
2:27 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police were notified by an unknown person concerning a problem in which he wanted to speak with an officer. Police attempted to make contact with the phone number provided and has left a voice message on the phone of this subject, but he has not yet contacted police so we know who it is or exactly what his problem made be and how we can help him.
6:33 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police installed a child safety seat in a motor vehicle for a Northfield resident. Northfield police has nationally certified car seat technician on staff and installations are free. Please call ahead for an appointment.
8:38 p.m. - Accident PD - Marc R. Fournier, age 57 of Braintree was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and for careless and negligent operation with an accident resulting. Fournier was traveling North on Rte. 12 South in Northfield Vermont when he lost control of his vehicle and went down over a 40 foot embankment into the brook. Fournier had a strong odor of intoxicants and was processed for DUI. At 22:25 hours he had a BAC of .174%
May 27
6:11 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to Tracy Hill in Northfield Vermont for a report of a suspicious persons. The complainant advised that a homeless transient made comments about injuring her cows because they make too much noise. Police responded and searched the surrounding area and woods but was unable to locate this individual. Police advised that if they spotted the individual again to contact the police.
12:30 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to a report from a concerned citizen who observed a person walking down Vt Rt 12A and acting suspicious as it appeared that he was looking in mailboxes along the roadway. Police located the subject and made identification and questioned him concerning his actions. Police advised the subject to move along and leave mailboxes alone.
1:03 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - The department received a call from a concerned citizen that she could hear a man and woman in a verbal conflict. She advised the dispatcher that the couple were standing outside a building on S Main Street, the male was being very loud and she may have heard a slap. The
officers responded to the area, talked with a few people in the building, but did not locate any people that had been fighting.
1:43 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police took a complaint from a concerned parent in reference to a situation that had taken place at one of the Northfield Public schools. Police met with the school principal and the matter was deemed a internal school issue, but police did document the matter.
2:14 p.m. - Accident PD - An operator of a vehicle came to the police department to report that she had gone off the road, hit a mailbox and tree on West Hill. She had damage to her own car and was contacting the owner of the mailbox. Report filed.
2:32 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police spoke with a concerned citizen in reference to a stray cat that had been creating a problem with her trash and is being feed by a next door neighbor. The citizen was directed to consult her landlord as well as the town health officer and also the local SPCA. Due to a lack of a cat ordinance the police are limited in what they can do at this point.
3 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police responded to a complaint concerning some unlawful mischief that had been done by the tenants who had just moved out of the rental property. Three windows had been broken. Police have documented this matter and took pictures and requested the property owner to provide a sworn written statement concerning the damage as this is a civil matter.
6:37 p.m. - Theft - Police received a report of a theft of money from a residence off of Cox Brook Road in Northfield Vermont. The complainant advised that he noticed that the money was taken approximately a week ago and that he was encouraged to report. The complainant advised that the money was taken from his residence sometime during the last three weeks.
7:18 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to a report of a family fight on Union Street. The complainant advised that his mother had hit him in the head with a full can of soda. Further investigation revealed that he had disobeyed his mother who in returned grounded him for a week so he concocted this story which he told his grandmother. No further action taken.
9:13 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a complaint about a resident in the Northfield Falls Trailer Park. The complainant wanted the complaint on file for this incident in regards to this individual.
9:47 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to the intersection of Wall Street and Water Street for a report of a fight. When Police arrived, They found several individuals standing outside. When asked what they were up to they sated nothing. An eye witness stated that they had been arguing with another group of people that had since gone back into their residence.
May 28
3:25 p.m. - Accident PD - An officer responded to a minor two car crash at the Convenience Plus parking lot. No injuries were reported. The officer completed a state of Vermont Uniform Crash report. Photos of the damage were taken.
6:07 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to the Falls Trailer Park for a reported citizens dispute. Police were advised that the neighbors were not getting along. All parties were advised not to interact with each other.
11:42 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police responded to Roxbury Vermont to assist the Vermont State Police with a reported under aged party. No under aged drinking was found, but multiple people were still inside and refused to come out. Police talked with multiple party goer's. The designated drivers were located. All were warn to not drive if they had been drinking. No further action was taken.
May 29
10:29 a.m. - Non-sufficient Funds Check - Police responded to Depot Square to meet with a merchant in reference to a bad check. Police assisted the merchant with the check, and Police will be investigating further.
5:39 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A resident of Vermont Route 12A, called to report a suspicious incident. The complainant advised a male in his early to mid twenty's came to the door. He advised he was a salesman, but the complainant advised he was acting strangely. The complainant described the male and the vehicle. The vehicle was a red sedan with white out of state plates. The officer was unable to locate the vehicle
6:13 p.m. - Accident PD - An officer responded to the intersection of Vermont Route 64 and Vermont Route 12 for the report of a two car crash. Upon arrival the officer completed a State of Vermont Uniform Crash report. A couple of occupants of the vehicle were transported to Central Vermont Medical Center as a precaution. Pictures of the damage were taken.
8:23 p.m. - Citizen Assist - A citizen of Pleasant Street advised that a dog had run into the side of his vehicle and caused damage. The dog was fine but the complainant wanted the incident documented. Police took a report.
May 30
12:04 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a complaint of suspicious activity in the Northfield Falls Mobile Home Park. Police were advised that a resident returned home after being away for the weekend and noticed something suspicious upon their return. Police are investigating.
2:27 p.m. - Burglary - A resident of Dogwood Glen called to report her residence had been burglarized. The complainant advised when she returned from a walk she found her residence in disa ray and some property missing from the residence. Some evidence was collected at the scene. A potential suspect may be identified.
2:58 p.m. - Theft - An officer responded to a residence on Little Northfield Road for the report of a burglary. The owners had been away for a couple weeks. Upon their return they noticed a few odds and ends missing from the residence.
May 31
12:32 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a report about a possible intoxicated driver operating a black truck on Main Street. The officer checked the area but did not locate the vehicle.
3:23 p.m. - Sex Offense - An officer took a report from a complainant of a sexual assault. Under investigation.
June 1
11:42 a.m. - Animal Problem - The department received a report of a dog inside a residence that had been barking for a long period of time. The officer tried to find the owner of the home to have the dog checked on. Messages were left and a call was received later in the day. The owner did not know the dog barked all day and would try to remedy the situation.
2:52 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - Police were contacted by school officials concerning a student in the elementary school who was truant and had not been in school for a couple of days/weeks.
3:19 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a complaint from a Northfield parent who was reporting some inappropriate circumstances that involved several young people. The matter was referred to DCF.
3:53 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An officer received a call from a concerned father regarding the welfare of his daughter. He advised when the daughter arrived home from school no one was there to care for her. I spoke with the mother and she advised child care was available shortly after her daughter arrived home, depending on traffic. The mother had made alternative arrangements for the last few days of school so the child would not be left home alone.
4:40 p.m. - MV Complaint - A resident of Bull Run Road called to report a vehicle speeding on Bull Run Road. The complainant provided a license plate. The officer called the registered owner of the complainant and advised her of the complaint. She advised she had been going under the speed limit around a sharp corner. She countered that the complainant had parked in the middle of the road.
11:06 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police were requested to respond to a residence on Vine Street to assist the ambulance crew with an unruly patient. The officer responded and stood by to make sure the ambulance crew was safe. The patient was transported to CVH without incident.
