Police Report
June 2
10:40 a.m. - Theft - Police took a complaint in reference to a theft of loose change and currency that had been saved over a period of time in a private residence. The missing money was discovered recently. Police are working some leads in this matter.
8:05 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a complaint of a girl possibly being beaten up near the walking bridge in Northfield. Police walked out to the area and observed no people in the area. Police responded to the location and the area near the bridge and found no one. No one called the police to report an assault. no further action taken.
10:22 p.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to VT Rte. 12 South for a report of a single vehicle accident, a vehicle in the ditch just past Fiddlers Green. Northfield Police, Fire and Rescue responded to the area but the vehicle had left the area with an unknown direction of travel. After a short search of the area, all personnel returned to service. No further action taken.
June 3
4:38 p.m. - Parking Problem - Police handled a complaint concerning the parking of vehicle around a fire hydrant. Police responded and determined that the hydrant which had been covered and not in use had been uncovered. The hydrant was covered.
8:47 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police assisted Vermont State Police with a moose vs multiple vehicle accident on VT Rte. 2 in St. Johnsbury. Police were returning from a prisoner transport when they almost struck the moose in the highway near the accident scene. Police turned around and went back and illuminated the moose and assisted with the traffic while the trooper filled out accident reports. There was no injuries with the accidents.
11:50 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police received multiple complaints of a very large black bear in the village of Northfield. Complainants advised that it was on the front lawn of the post office and was seen on and around other nearby properties. Witnesses estimated the weight of the bear to be between 300 and 400 pounds. Police searched the area but the bear had all ready left.
June 4
6:17 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment- Police received a complaint of an ex employee who was calling and harassing his old employer. Police called this individual and explained to him the errors of his ways and how he needed to act unless he wanted to be arrested. The male subject apologized for his actions and advised that he would not be bothering him any more.
10:43 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a complaint about a group of kids banging on doors and waking up the residence near Winter Street. Police responded to the area and searched the surrounding area for approximately an hour but did not locate the kids. No other complaints were received regarding this situation.
June 5
8:51 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police received a report of a vandalism of a motor vehicle. The victim reported 2 tires slashed while parked in her driveway overnight. A report was taken.
10:08 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to the area around Videos and More for a report of suspicious persons behind the store. Police responded and searched the area but did not locate anyone in the area. No further action taken.
10:50 p.m. - DUI - Daniel C. Hendy age 22 of Northfield, VT was arrested for DUI. Hendy was stopped for several motor vehicle violations on Carpenter Street. While speaking with Hendy the officer could smell a strong odor of intoxicants. After performing the standardized field sobriety exercises, Hendy was transported to the Northfield Police Department for processing. Hendy was ited to appear in Washington District Court on Thursday June 24, 2010.
June 6
8:33 p.m. - Citizen Assist - A citizen called because she was having a relationship problem. She wanted to leave the residence, but could not find some of her property. The officer listen and offered assistance.
June 7
8:05 a.m. - Accident PD An Officer responded to a two car collision on Water Street. Vehicle 1 backed into the roadway and struck Vehicle 2 which was parked at the curb on Water Street. Vehicles were moved back into the driveway prior to the officer’s arrival. No injuries reported. Vermont Crash report to be completed.
10:46 a.m. - Animal Problem - An officer received a report of an animal problem on Pleasant Street. The neighbors dog was loose and running around. The officer contacted Animal Control who responded to the residence. Attempts to take the loose dog into custody were fruitless and the dog kept running away from Animal Control. A call to the dog owner was made and the dog was secured later in the day.
