Northfield Police Report
June 9
6:42 p.m. - Agency Assistance The department was contacted by NU security who advised that they have a bunch of town kids on campus skate boarding and that they are trying to round them up as they have been having problems with them messing around inside the buildings skateboarding and such. Responded and subjects were gone upon arrival.
10:20 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Responded to I-89N at Exit 5 by the request of VT State Police to BOL for a report of a wrong way driver. A red car was reportedly traveling southbound in the northbound lane and was coming from Exit 7. The officer stood by at Exit 5 but never encountered the vehicle.
June 10
4:43 p.m. - Accident PD - An officer was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash at the bottom of Vt Rt 64. Upon arrival to the scene this officer observed a vehicle with heavy front end damage in the center VT RT 12S at the intersection of Vt Rt 64 that also intersects with Lovers Lane. The other vehicle was a truck parked on the side of the road. There were no injuries. Northfield Fire responded for cleanup. A VT Crash report to be filed.
5:10 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - A citizen of Elm Street called the department to discuss options regarding a rentor. The officer gave resources for civil discords.
6:51 p.m. - Custodial Interference - A concerned parent called the department regarding interference with custody rights. The officer offered resources for possible solutions.
June 11
12:33 p.m. - MV Complaint - An officer was advised by a third party of a motor vehicle problem reported to the town office from a West Hill resident. The officer responded to the area. After driving the length of the road the office saw only one spot where a vehicle may have gone off. There was no damage nor vehicle found.
8:34 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police served a temporary relief from abuse order. Another County Sheriff's department faxed the Order at 17:09 hours and service was made at 20:21 hours. The complainant in the order is no longer staying in Northfield. Her personal items were picked up and arrangements were made for her to retrieve them. The order was served without incident.
June 12
4:42 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to Hallstrom Road for a report of shots being fired in the area. The complainant advised that she was awaken from her sleep by what sounded like gun fire. The complainant advised that she went out onto her front porch and listen to several more shots being fired in the area. The complainant advised that a short time later an older model white Honda went speeding up Stony Brook Road.
5:39 a.m. - Alcohol Offense - Police responded to the Central Vermont Hospital for a report of a female that was there being treated for a gun shot wound to the hand. The incident reportedly happened in Northfield and is under investigation. Two minors, both 20, were given referrals to the Teen Alcohol Safety Program.
4:43 p.m. - Vagrancy An officer was on patrol when he saw a man sitting on the front porch of the Northfield Pharmacy on Deopt Sqaure for an extended period of time. The officer noted that the pharmacy had closed for the day. He stopped and ID'ed him. He advised he was hitch-hiking and headed to Bethel, VT. I checked for wants and warrants, and he was clear. I offered him a ride and he declined. The officer asked him to move along, as he had started to spread his belongings over the steps of the building.
11:54 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Officers responded to Expansion Lane for the report of a noise complaint and the report of a four wheeler being driven on the roadway. Upon arrival the officers could hear the party. They did not observe any illegal vehicle operation. The party host was advised of the complaint and the music was turned down.
June 13
12:53 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - The department was requested for suspicious circumstance. A vacation property was reportedly broken into over the past few weeks. It was determined who had been at the property recently and the owners will be notifying the department if there was any property taken.
3:34 p.m. - Intoxicated Person - A report was received of a intoxicated male refusing to leave a graduation party on Union Brook Road. It was determined that the intoxicated guest was also on probation. Department of Corrections was contacted. The offender had left the party when the officer arrived. Later the Field Supervisory Unit from DOC located the offender and dealt with his violations of drinking. The party incident is under investigation to see if further charges are pending.
7:18 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - An officer received a telephone call from a citizen reporting that she had been threatened while sitting on the Depot Square common. The offender had driven up to the area and threatened her because of a current situation. The offender was advised by the officer to be careful of his actions and words in public.
June 14
1:12 p.m. - Non-sufficient Funds Check - A bad check was given to the department by a local business. The check for $270 was not honored and the business had contacted the department for help in collecting the funds. Contact with the maker of the
check prompted a promise of payment within a week to avoid criminal charges. If payment is made, nothing further.
5:13 p.m. - Accident PD - An officer responded to a report of minor two car collision at the 65 VT RT 12A apartments. He was advised there were no injuries and no need for Fire Dept. or EMS. V1 backed into V2, which was parked. Crash report completed.
10:24 p.m. - MV Complaint - A call was received from a concerned citizen of Northfield. The caller felt that someone was driving frequently by his house, a number of times within a half hour, to be threatening. The caller had reasons for concern. The officer patrolled the area and later located the suspected offender. Nothing further at this time.
June 15
3:52 a.m. - Juvenile Problem - An officer received a call from a concerned citizen about two young looking boys acting strangely at an apartment house near a convenience market. The boys were located by the officer and he transported both of them to their respective residences and counseled them and their parents on being home at dark, and not going back out until full daylight and with their parents permission.
11:04 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - An officer was advised by a hardware store that someone had taken plastic pipe from their outdoor supplies and smashed it near the railroad tracks. Would appear that the vandalism happened overnight.
1:52 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Officers responded to the Elmwood Cemetery on Cemetery Street for a report of vandalism. The complainant advised that approximately six grave markers had been knocked over. It is believed that sometime within the past week the damage happened. The estimated cost to repair the markers is $600. If anyone has any information or sees anything suspicious, please call the police.
