Former News Writer Producing Radio Show

The Northfield News

WHITTIER, Cal. - Former Northfield News sportswriter James Lott has been co-producing a current events and political talk radio show, according to a feature article in the spring issue of The Rock, a Whittier College alumni magazine.

Mr. Lott worked for The News during his sophomore and junior years at Northfield High School, under the tutelage of former editor Benjamin Carr.

He is a junior at Whittier College, and produces the show, The Greenleaf Report, during the school year.

Mr. Lott told the magazine that everyone's favorite part is the last segment called the roundtable, in "which we pick a few controversial topics and we have a brief debate on each issue."

He said that the biggest challenge each week is pulling together the various components of the show. He told the magazine that "the last few hours just before the show are always busy, and can sometimes get stressful, but it makes it that much more rewarding to hear it all come together on the air."

The show is on hiatus during the summer, but Mr. Lott expects to be back at the mike on KPOET in the fall. The show is streamed on the internet and will air in the fall on Wednesdays at 10 p.m., eastern time.

While the magazine said that the show was created to capitalize "on the recent surge of political interest," Mr. Lott's mother, Kathleen Lott of Northfield, said, "I'm not sure anyone could use the terms recent and political interest in the same sentence when talking about James. He grew up in an extended family in which politics and journalism dominated family conversations, whether at the supper table or at family gatherings."

Mr. Lott is the grandson of Meg Donahue Davis, a long time resident of Northfield.
