Northfield Police Report

June 16

2:44 p.m. - Sex Offense - An officer was contacted by a mother of two minors from another town. The parent wanted to report unacceptable behavior that happens while the children were visiting their father in Northfield. Under investigation.

June 17

12:39 p.m. - Theft - A store clerk reported shoplifting to the dutyofficer. The officer took his statement and is investigating.

1 p.m. - Citizen Assist - A citizen of Vine Street came to the police department. He needed to talk with an officer regarding some suspicious

behavior. The officer took the information and will be investigating.

2:05 p.m. - Theft - An officer talked with a citizen of VT Rt 12a. The caller wanted to report that her cell phone had been taken and she knew who had

it. The officer contacted the reported offender, and the cell phone was returned to the original caller.

2:31 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - A resident of an apartment complex came to the police department requesting a notice against trespass on another tenant of the samecomplex. The officer explained the limitations of a Notice Against Trespass onrental property. The officer also met with all parties involved in the ongoing dispute to help resolve issues.

8:16 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - An officer responded to Vt Rt 12 A for a citizen dispute. Both parties live in this apartment complex. Because one tenant was unhappy with another tenants actions, the two citizens were having a verbal argument regarding some property. The officer spoke with both parties and resolved where the property needed to be. The officer advised the tenants to have no contact with each other.

June 18

10:13 a.m. - Family Fight/Domestic – The Department received a report of a family fight via 911. The officer responded to the resident. The two parties had separated and there had not been any physical contact. The female was requesting that the male leave and the male willing did so.

11 a.m. - Traffic Hazard - An officer reported a downed tree that he came upon while on patrol. The tree was a traffic hazard on Dole Hill. The officer stood by until a member of the town highway responded to clear the road.

12:18 p.m. - Theft - A local business called reporting that their dumpster had been used by unauthorized people. The caller stated that illegal trash seemed to be from another business. Contact with the other business was unaware of why their trash would be in in a different dumpster. One possible reason is that someone is searching trash for unknown reasons, and carrying the trash from one dumpster to the next.

1:24 p.m. - Accident PD - Two operators of two vehicles came to the department to file a crash report. The two parties spoke with the officer, information was exchanged and a report was generated, mainly for insurance purposes. There was minor damage and no injuries.

2:02 p.m. - Trespassing - The store clerk of a food service requested an officer to serve a local youth with a Notice Against Trespass. The youth had been in the store, causing a disturbance, and refusing to leave. The caller stated that he did leave when he made the phone call. However, the store manager would like the youth to be advised not to return to the store.

2:30 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – A call was received from the Chief environmental officer for the agency of natural resources reporting suspicious activity. The Northfield officer collected the information to conduct an investigation.

5:33 p.m. - Agency Assistance - The Colchester Police Department requested that a Northfield Officer would assist them. The Colchester officer needed to have a Northfield resident cited for a bad check that had been given in payment in Colchester. The officer located the offender and gave them the citation to appear in Chittenden County Court for the offense.

9:27 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - An officer received a call from a dad stating that he was having a custodial issue with his exwife. He advised that his son after being picked up ran back to his mother and she refused to send him with dad. The child had had an emotional evening and did not want to be away from his mom. After hearing the situation the father agreed to postpone the visitation to the next day.

June 19

1 a.m. - Citizen Dispute - Officers responded to a fight in progress call. The officers took statements and are investigating.

7:56 a.m. - Theft - An officer received a report of a theft of a car stereo from a citizen on Vine Street. The caller advised that sometime overnight someone had taken the stereo out of his Jeep. The officer responded to the scene to collect information. He talked with neighbors. If anyone sees anything suspicious anytime day or night, please call the Northfield Police Department, 802-485- 9181.

June 20

11:17 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - An employee of Northfield reported that sometime overnight the Northfield Pool had been vandalized. The employee reported that several tables had been pushed in to the pool and the porta potty had been tipped over. There are no suspects.

6:40 p.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer responded to assist the Northfield Ambulance with a highly intoxicated female. The patient was transported to CVH by ambulance. I followed the ambulance due to her severe incapacitation. The hospital staff admitted her.

6:54 p.m. - Lost Property - A citizen of Northfield called to report his laptop computer either stolen or missing. The caller had left his computer while parked on Depot Square. When he returned to the area, the computer was gone.

June 21

9:29 a.m. - Theft - An officer talked with an officer from the American Legion on Depot Square about suspicious circumstances. The Northfield officer is investigating.

3:57 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - The department was contacted by a residence of Cox Brook. The caller advised that he had made arrangements through Craigslist.com

to purchase firewood. To date he had not received the firewood. Under investigation.

4:14 p.m. - MV Complaint - The department was advised of a one vehicle crash on Bean Road. There were no reported injuries or leaking fluids. The officer responded to the scene. The vehicle had sideswiped a tree which caused significant damage to the passenger side of the vehicle. The operator had just gotten his graduated license and received a ticket for having passengers in the vehicle. The vehicle was towed at the request of the owner of the vehicle.

June 22

2:17 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - An officer was dispatched to the report of noise on Central Street. Upon arrival the officer could not hear any loud noise. As the officer walked the driveway he could hear the bass from a stereo. The stereo was turned off, thus eliminating the source of the noise. The owner of the vehicle was contacted.

2:43 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – A caller advised she had seen someone acting suspicious on North Main Street. The officer canvassed the area and monitored the area for a while but did not see or hear anyone walking.

9:51 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - An officer received a report of vandalism on Water Street. The complainant/property owner reported a window had been smashed. The officer responded to the rental property and attempted to speak with the tenant. Unknown how or what broke the window.

12:47 p.m. - MV Complaint - Officers received a bol from dispatch advising a green Ford truck with an extended cab, was headed southbound on VT RT 12N. The vehicle was witnessed operating erratically and unsafely in the mobile home park, and reportedly came close to striking two children. The registration was recorded. The officers canvassed for the vehicle and went to the known address of the registered owner. Under investigation.

2:10 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – The department was contacted by a concerned citizen about an empty residence. The caller reports that the building is being used by young people as a gathering place. Under investigation.

5:16 p.m. - Trespassing - A convenience store requested that the officer serve an unwanted patron with a Notice Against Trespass. The paperwork was served.

7:30 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An officer was approached by a citizen who requested to report a threatening situation, which had occurred yesterday in Berlin. The complainant advised that she had received a call from a 5 year old child that advised they were home alone and scared. The complaint advised she drove to Berlin to find the parent of the child just returning home. The parent was not happy that she had gone to check on the child. Wanted a report.
