Arthur Joseph Messier, 88, NHS Grad worked at Pratt & Whitney for 30 years
Arthur Joseph Messier, 88, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at his home in Plainville, Connecticut. He was born in Bradford, Vermont on April 2, 1922, the son of Norman & Marie Anne (Fortin) Messier. He is a graduate of Northfield High School, class of 1942.
He served during World War II in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic, from 1942 until he was honorably discharged in 1944.
He was employed by Pratt & Whitney in Hartford, Connecticut, retiring in 1987 after more than 30 years of service. He also owned and operated a small engine repair shop at his home until his death. He also enjoyed building stone walls. Even though Arthur moved away from Northfield over 60 years ago, he was always up to date on his home town. He always impressed his family with his sharp memory, always inquiring about all of his old friends.
Survivors include his brother, Albert Messier of Northfield; fourteen nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two sisters, Arlene Messier Roux, Mary Jane Messier Bouchard; one brother, Leo J. Messier.
There are no calling hours. Funeral services were conducted on July 12 at Kingston Funeral Home, 35 Slate Avenue in Northfield, followed by burial in the Calvary Cemetery.
